Unlock your potential! **Job Summary and Qualifications** The Speech Therapist provides high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Therapist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues. **What you will do in this role:** + In accordance with a physician’s order, evaluates, treats and educates patients for rehabilitation of speech, language, cognitive, swallowing, oral-motor, and voice disorders. + Utilizes appropriate resources to complete assignments within allocated time period. + Adapts to changes in volume/acuity demands. + Adheres to Attendance and Tardiness Policy. + Supports responsible staffing decisions. + Demonstrates efforts to eliminate waste. + Reports to work on time and is ready to start work. + Consistently utilizes Kronos system to document hours of work. + Serves as a resource as needed in an effective manner to unit and other departments. + Is supportive of administrative decisions. + Demonstrates teamwork and cooperation and works well with others. + Is flexible in meeting staffing and scheduling requirements of the department. + Has working knowledge of the operation of Department or seeks guidance from appropriate personnel. + Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel and correctly completes work order. + Assures safe and clean environment + Keeps hallways clutter free and rooms neat. + Utilizes standard precautions by wearing personal protective equipment as indicated by Infection Control and uses correct handwashing techniques + Remains calm in crisis situations. + Consistently strives to improve performance. + Makes suggestions for improvement. + Is receptive to new ideas. + Maintains confidentiality of all patient/other information. + Gives accurate and concise reports. + Keeps the Department Director informed on reportable situations and department needs. + Interacts with patients, doctors and visitors with grace and tact. + Gains patient/family confidence. + Is cognizant of age-specific, cultural and physical needs of customer in providing service. + Attends and participates in staff meetings or reads minutes. + Participates in unit/department orientation/preceptorships. + Accepts responsibility for assessment of self-learning needs and identifies resources to accomplish continued personal and professional development. + Actively participates in hospital and department committees as assigned. + Attends all mandatory in-services annually. + Makes independent decisions. + Requires minimum supervision. + Displays professional pride. + Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to HCA’s Code of Conduct. + Conduct reflects HCA’s mission and values + Demonstrates problem-solving ability using appropriate resources. + Evaluates patients with speech, language, cognitive, oral-motor, swallowing, and voice disorders. Diagnoses and develops goals for those patients and provides appropriate treatment. Adapts conventional Speech Therapy techniques to meet the age-appropriate need of each patient along with other specific needs based on his/her mental, physical, and emotional status. Educates and communicates results and strategies to appropriate team members. + Establishes, implements, and modifies treatment plans and participates in discharge planning. + Completes documentation in accordance with Rehabilitation Medicine policy and procedures. + Participates in discharge planning with related health professionals such as Social Services, M.D.'s, and other Rehab personnel. Provides recommendations based on observed evaluation and progress of patients to ensure safe and appropriate discharges. + Provides education and counseling for patients regarding nature of deficits, recovery, and compensatory strategies. + Provides education and in-services to staff and public regarding topics in speech-language pathology. + Supervise and train Speech-Therapy students as requested + Adheres to hospital-wide and department-specific policies and procedures. + Assists with Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement, inventory control, orientation of new employees, billing procedures, monthly statistical computations and payroll as required by Director. + Performs other duties as assigned. **What qualifications you will need:** **Education:** + Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. **Licensure:** + Current licensure for the practice of Speech-Language Pathology in the Commonwealth of Virginia. **Certification:** + Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association. BLS certification through American Red Cross (AHA and military certifications accepted) required upon hire **Experience:** + Experience should include clinical competence with aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, and cognitive-communication disorders. **Preferred:** + Two years’ experience with evaluating and treating patients with dysphagia to include experience conducting video fluoroscopic swallow studies and determining diet and treatment recommendations.
