Take your career to a new level of caring. Apply today! *Responsibilities for internal Candidates The Chaplain is responsible for providing spiritual care to Hospice patients and their families. Demonstrate proficiency in providing spiritual care to persons of all races, ages, genders, sexual orientation, social class, and mental/emotional status. Demonstrate ability for patient/caregiver to lead the spiritual conversation, for the Chaplain to walk alongside him/her in his/her spiritual journey and refraining from sharing one’s own beliefs unless asked to do so by the patient/caregivers. Demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of spiritual resources to support each person’s belief system, provide resources as appropriate, and network with other religious leaders in the community to refer patients/caregivers to these leaders when necessary. Demonstrate ability to work efficiently and effectively within the Interdisciplinary Team and provide insight in the IDG meeting concerning the patient/caregiver’s emotional and spiritual needs Provide spiritual and emotional care to members of the Hospice Staff when requested Responsibilities Demonstrate understanding of the difference between being a rabbi/imam/pastor/priest/etc. and being a Spiritual Caregiver. Demonstrate proficiency in providing spiritual care to persons of all races, ages, genders, sexual orientation, social class and mental/emotional status Provide spiritual care to persons of beliefs that are different than the Spiritual Caregiver’s beliefs by championing cultural and spiritual humility Demonstrate ability for patient/caregiver to lead the spiritual conversation, for the Spiritual Caregiver to walk alongside him/her in his/her spiritual journey and refraining from sharing one’s own beliefs unless asked to do so by the patient/caregivers. Demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of spiritual resources to support each person’s belief system, provide resources as appropriate, and network with other religious leaders in the community in order to refer patients/caregivers to these leaders when necessary. Conduct or make arrangements for services to honor the deceased when requested. Demonstrate proficiency in documenting spiritual care encounters Demonstrate ability to work efficiently and effectively within the Interdisciplinary Team and provide insight in the IDG meeting concerning the patient/caregiver’s emotional and spiritual needs Provide spiritual and emotional care to members of the Hospice Staff when requested Provide educational programs for staff, facilities and community groups as requested. Functions as a preceptor to new hires and oversees Spiritual Support Volunteers Demonstrates healthy self-care, furthers one’s own continuing education in their field and maintains healthy boundaries with patients/caregivers. Participates in ongoing quality assessment and performance improvement for the Agency on a daily basis Maintains personnel file and completes assigned courses in iTrain before the set deadlines Fulfills all other duties as assigned by the agency Director of Bereavement and Spiritual Support Services. Submits twelve hours of continuing education each calendar year related to the Hospice role to the Executive Director Education and Experience Education Preferred: Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education or Master’s degree in theology, divinity, pastoral care, philosophy, religion or related discipline. Required: Two units of Clinical Pastoral Education or Bachelor’s degree in theology, divinity, pastoral care, philosophy, religion or related discipline. Experience Preferred: Two years Hospice experience. Required: A minimum of two years’ experience in a health care setting and/or related pastoral experience. License Requirements Provide documentation of current endorsement or acceptable language (licensing, ordination, etc.) in accordance with the applicant’s spiritual/faith tradition. Faith groups must be recognized by the Armed Forces Chaplains Board Provide documentation that demonstrates that the candidate is in good standing with their spiritual/faith group with no ethical charges current or pending. Skill Requirements Ability to minister to patients and families in crisis Exceptional verbal communication skills Ability to plan, organize, and exercise independent judgement Demonstrated ability to be open, sensitive, flexible and ecumenical. Current CPR, driver's license, valid vehicle insurance card and access to a dependable vehicle, or public transportation.
