Posting Number S-3490 Position Number 75270 Type of Recruitment External Position Title SPONSORED RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION ANALYST / COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & ENGINEERING Position Summary The Analyst for sponsored research administration in the College of Science and Engineering provides expertise, analysis, and assistance to CS&E faculty and staff in the management of funds associated with externally funded grants/contracts and CS&E sponsored research. The Analyst maintains complex databases and provides regular analysis and reports to units within CS&E on various financial and personnel items related to externally funded grants/contract and CS&E sponsored research funds. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree.
Two years of relevant experience working with financial management.
Experience using spreadsheet and database software programs.
Demonstrated organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to plan, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks and projects.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Preferred Qualifications SAP Grant Management experience.
Experience working with faculty and academic department on financial and administrative matters.
Experience in a higher education setting.
Experience working with externally funded grants and contracts. Duties & Responsibilities Provides expertise, analysis, and assistance to CS&E faculty and staff in the management of externally funded grants/contracts and CS&E sponsored research funds.
Works with faculty to outline funding portfolios (plans) to assist in the management of expenses across multiple grant/contract/CS&E sponsored research accounts.
Works with faculty and staff to assist in the understanding and completion of various forms, policies, and procedures that impact sponsored projects.
Works with other CMU offices on grant/contract related expenses; assists with the initiation and follow up of purchase requisitions, competitive bid process, service agreements, participant payments, and graduate student stipend/tuition transactions.
Maintains and provides analysis of several databases of sponsored research activity; provides regular and ad-hoc reports for the Dean’s office, departments, and/or faculty.
Assists faculty in determining allowable personnel (faculty, students, temp, GAs, etc.) on grants/contacts (re: budget, scope, policy); collaborates with multiple offices to make hiring determinations.
Reviews and advises Dean’s office on submitted personnel transactions.
Organizes, analyzes budgets, and initiates forms for summer assignments on grants and contracts, provides follow up and tracks summer payroll assignments for accuracy.
Monitors/reviews GA tuition distribution and student services fees associated with grants/contracts each semester; submits journal entry to transfer student service fee expenses to grant/contract accounts and resolves discrepancies with FPS.
Analyzes tuition remission data across the college for assessment reporting as needed.
Analyzes payroll distribution reports and personnel transactions as they pertain to allowed spending, committed effort, and available funds for sponsored projects.
Assists the Director and Assistant Director/Sponsored Research Administration/CS&E in the training program for CS&E faculty and staff as requested.
Attends project directors’ meetings or prepares project notes in the funding portfolio if the meeting is waived.
Documents and updates processes, guidelines, and CS&E reference materials for training purposes and continuity of services.
