Sports Multi-Skilled Journalist/Producer

 

 

CBS O&O in Dallas (KTVT) is looking for a dynamic and enterprising Sports Multi-Skilled Journalist/Producer. The MSJ will produce content for all platforms in a manner that is accurate, engaging, and meaningful to news and sports consumers. Candidate should be a passionate and creative photographer with the ability to present on-air. The ideal candidate is someone who can look beyond the stats and scores. Our team is seeking an engaging storyteller who enterprises and produces compelling character-driven stories in the sports genre. This position is required to be able to shoot, edit, and create basic graphics. The North Texas region has a passionate following for every level of sports! From the professional teams in the market, to the regional college teams and hundreds of area high school programs. The ideal candidate must be able to connect with each level to find sources for information and story ideas.


MSJs are storytellers from start to finish. This position allows the journalist to take creative control.

Must shoot, write, edit, and have knowledge of how to integrate news graphics into packages.

The candidate will have strong technical skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues that arise in the field.

Must also have a dynamic on-air presence and the ability to deliver final news product creatively and concisely.
Candidates must be engaged digitally and understand how to utilize multi-platform content distribution.

 

Physical Demands:

Must be able to carry and set up a camera on a tripod,

Have knowledge of how to light interview subjects and how to operate edit software with speed and accuracy.
Candidate must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record in order to operate a company vehicle.
Experience working with iNews and Grass Valley is desired. 
Journalism or allied degree preferred.

 

Responsibilities:
•    Ability to identify and develop enterprise content that connects with DFW Market
•    Ready, willing, and able to produce content that serves our platforms including, on-air, online and streaming
•    Contributes to the editorial process with consistent story pitches
•    Meet daily deadlines, and maintain a steadfast commitment to journalistic integrity
•    Shoot, edit, write, and produce entertaining and informational stories and sportscasts across multiple platforms
•    Applied knowledge/use of Social Media platforms to connect with audience and implement station's strategy
•    Consistently supply material to KTVT’s social media and digital platforms - including CBSTexas.com and CBS News Texas Streaming
•    Prepare, coordinate, and edit on-air material for daily sportscasts.
•    Work under extreme deadline pressure to create compelling sportscasts, in consultation with sports anchors and news managers.
•    Monitor and log televised sports events and interviews.
•    Conceive, create, and order graphics.
•    Field produce, as needed.
•    Maintain an unequivocal commitment to accuracy, fairness, and ethics.
•    Contribute story ideas.
•    Other duties, as assigned.

Successful Candidate will have:
•    Creative, organized, and results-oriented.
•    Line producing skills.
•    Experience with non-linear editing. Grass Valley edit system knowledge, a plus.
•    Must have strong knowledge of DFW-area sports
•    Knowledge of use of social media and ability to execute station’s digital strategy.
•    Dynamic Storytelling and Interviewing abilities
•    Prior experience as a Sports MSJ in a top 10 Market preferred
•    Expert knowledge of Professional, College and High School sports (North Texas region is a plus)
•    Strong skills in both managing time well and being extremely organized
•    Must be able to shoot, write, edit and create basic graphics.
•    Proven ability to work well in a team setting within a face-paced environment while optimally meeting strict deadlines
•    Willingness and availability to work independently on a varying schedule that includes evenings, weekends and holidays
