SpringNet Design Specialist - ( 24000176 ) **Description** **PURPOSE OF POSITION:** Under the direction of SpringNet Projects Manager or designee, designs, evaluates, coordinates, monitors new fiber installations/re-routes that require splicing, and recommends broadband telecommunications equipment and systems to support new SpringNet customer circuits and construction requests. Provides assistance in analysis of data within the fiber design software including but not limited to custom tracing and specialized map creation. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide decisions on design development and deployment of mission-critical information required by the operations of SpringNet. **ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:** 1. Acts as a leader with regard to new customer builds, municipal projects, infrastructure, and maintenance projects under the direction of the SpringNet Projects Manager. 2. Develops and writes training documentation for Designers/Engineers. 3. Supports Network Engineers and Fiber Technicians when troubleshooting new and existing fiber paths and splicing designs. 4. Prepares detailed splicing and installation plans for the delivery of contracted broadband services, improvements in service delivery, performance, and/or capabilities of broadband telecommunications systems. 5. Analyzes specifications to develop system configuration consistent with the customer’s contracted services. Provides detailed system specifications, drawings, task, and time related analysis of service delivery estimates and construction. 6. Coordinates with SpringNet Engineer regarding the timely preparation of estimates, customer specific requests, and proposed development information. 7. Consults with hardware and software engineers to determine interface requirements, specifications, and compatibility. 8. Participates in meeting the business unit’s revenue producing objectives. 9. Maintains knowledge base about new technologies and methods to remain effective in this position. 10. Responsible for integrity of all records for fiber as-builts sent to the GIS Department. 11. Coordinates with GIS Department for workflow development for internal and external processes that involve as-builts, data posting, data integrity, and symbology. 12. Oversees and trains interns with regards to fiber design and related projects. 13. Provides support and gathers pertinent information necessary to process damage claims. 14. Serves in the rotating SpringNet Duty Supervisor role, directing and supporting emergency restoration efforts as needed. 15. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by management. **QUALIFICATIONS:** **Education and Experience:** Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in telecommunications, computer information systems, industrial technology, electrical engineering, business, or related field is required. Exceptional related experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree on a year for year basis. Three years’ recent progressively responsible engineering experience in broadband telecommunications systems design or experience in fiber optic splicing design and construction, broadband communications methods, transmission facilities, and fiber maintenance is required. Experience in Autodesk AutoCad software is preferred. **Licensing/Certification:** Must have a valid driver’s license (minimum Class F). **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:** * High analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and relational skills. * Excellent oral and written presentation skills. * Working knowledge of: o Overhead communications line design, underground communications line design including customer prem, and fiber optic splicing design and construction. o AutoCAD, GIS/ArcMap, Google Earth, CrescentLink, or Spatial. o Troubleshooting outages and programming languages such as Python, C , SQL VBA. o Broadband communications methods, transmission facilities, and fiber maintenance. o Integration with other Utility T&D applications (i.e., System Modeling Software, Work Management, Customer Information System, Outage Management, TigerPaw, or Project Management software, etc.). o Microsoft Office products. * Ability to: o Delegate and effectively coordinate the activities of others. o Quickly learn and become familiar with technical subjects. o Meet and deal with people cooperatively and effectively. o Demonstrate abilities in meeting deadlines and scheduling of work for timely completion. o Work courteously with customers, co-workers, and individuals in other departments. o Work under pressure and meet close deadlines. o Communicate clearly, concisely, and convey technical information in non-technical terms. **Physical Requirements:** Typically, sedentary work. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required. Bending and stooping may be required. Must be able to visually differentiate between color-coded lines and symbols associated with utilization of fiber design software. May be required to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. **Working Conditions:** Duties are primarily performed in an office environment.
