Short Description:

The consultant will perform highly advanced technical work on SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 in our Windows environment.

 

Complete Description:

Specific SQL Server DBA job responsibilities include:

•             Work with application developers and system/software administrators to coordinate installation, maintenance, and upgrades

•             Enforce rules and roles as they apply to DOT’s shared/enterprise environment architecture

•             Work with 3rd party vendors as needed to fit COTS solutions into the DOT enterprise architecture

•             Provide direction and support to upgrade SQL Server 2005 applications to SQL Server 2008

•             Assist in creating logical and physical data models

•             Perform SQL tuning and database tuning

•             Problem resolution

•             Create Backup and Recovery plans

•             Migrate database objects through various environments

 

Provide primary technical support for the design, development and implementation of database security, maintenance, backup and recovery as well as the monitoring of database performance and space management.  Responsible for maintaining documentation for all SQL Server procedures and policies. Provide technical assistance for problem analysis and resolution to both System Administrators and Developers.

 

SQL Server is one of our standard relational databases for PENNDOT's Distributed production application systems.  This Database Administrator 3 will work side-by-side with our BIO/BBSS professionals, including nights and weekends (when required), and will have the skills and knowledge to: (1) effectively implement new releases of SQL Server, (2) efficiently manage major changes in complex applications that affect (or are affected by) SQL Server, (3) lead critical problem trouble-shooting / quick resolution when major production system incidents occur, and (4) effectively communicate with management, developers, front end users and technical staff.

 

This Database Administrator 3 will be responsible for supporting our SQL Server 2005 environments including: Sandbox, Developement, System Test, Training & Production.  They will also support a current project to convert all SQL Server 2005 databases to SQL Server 2008. Our environment currently consists of approximately: 9,034 tables, 22,082 indexes and 53 GB of data.  Note that the 4 pre-production environments will also be converted.
