SQL Database Developer
Waste Connections is the premier provider of solid waste collection, transfer, recycling and disposal services, along with recycling and resource recovery, in mostly exclusive and secondary markets across the US and Canada.
This is a full-time expert level position at Waste Connections, Inc. located in The Woodlands, Texas. The position will be primarily responsible for management and support of our internal routing and billing application as well as integrating newly acquired company data. This position is a member of the Operations Applications Information Systems group and will be part of the Database Team.

SQL Server DevelopmentWriting SQL queries from scratch, must be very proficient in Transact SQLSSIS – take data from the old system, modify that data, and feed into the new systemUse of data model concepts, master data management, operational process, SDLC, project management, data profiling, data cleansing/de-duplication processes.Use of SQL Server database, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Azure Data platforms (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lakes, and Azure Databricks). Working with Microsoft SQL Stack e.g., SQL Server 2016 or higher, SSAS, SSIS, SSRSData Analysis and Data UpdatesLive and Test database updatesCreate, update, and maintain Transact SQL scriptsCreate, update and maintain indexes, stored procedures, and triggers.Data ConversionsCreate scripts to migrate legacy data into our current routing and hauling software.Data migration with source database to target database mapping.SupportAnalyze data, provide solutions and support our existing customers.Database AdministrationLight administration such as performance monitoring, restores and backups.Working directly with the business clients.Extensive use of written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to synthesize complex issues/scenarios into easy-to-understand concepts.Works closely with the business team, development team, analysis team, and the users to enhance quality and product delivered.Responsible for precisely communicating impact, status, priority, progress, and roadblocks to managementProvides guidance in terms of priority and ownership of issues and requests.EDUCATION / TECHNICAL EXPERTISE / EXPERIENCE:
3+ years of experience in application developmentBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related fieldExcellent in Transact SQLProficient in Microsoft SQL Server AdministrationStrong problem-solving and communication skillsAbility to learn quickly and work independently or as part of a teamExcellent Communication and Inter-personal skills, both with business customers and with fellow IT professionals (Business Analysts, Project Managers and Developers)Must be able to work in fast paced environment and be able to adapt to changing requirementsAbility to multi-taskAbility to work to deadlineWhat’s In It For You:
