The Senior Accountant – Corporate Accounting is a key member of the Corporate Controller’s Group and is based at the Boston, MA headquarters location. This visible role is responsible for closing the general ledgers of various corporate entities and works closely with other corporate functions (Technical Accounting, External Reporting, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, Legal, Risk Management, etc.) as well as accountants around the world. This individual identifies and escalates issues as appropriate to ensure timely financial reporting and compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“US GAAP”). The Senior Accountant – Corporate Accounting pursues continuous improvement of the corporate closing process, including identifying opportunities and making recommendations for improvement.
This is a hybrid role based at Cabot’s Corporate Headquarters in Boston, MA. The hybrid role requires the Senior Accountant to work physically in the Boston office 3 days a week generally Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and has the option to work remotely the remaining 2 days.
How You Will Make an Impact Performs the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for various corporate entities including preparation of journal entries, general ledger reconciliations and related analyses.Prepares journal entries and supporting documentation for complex accounting areas such as intercompany profit elimination, stock-based compensation, and/or deferred compensation.Updates and records accrual, prepaid, fixed asset, intercompany and/or payroll accounting monthly.Assists in evaluating Corporate Accounting’s compliance with accounting policies and internal controls; suggests and implements improvements where possible.Supports internal and external audits.Works directly with corporate functions, regional accountants, and business / functional leaders.Assists with training programs for new or less-experienced accounting employees. Serves as resource to others and assists with resolution of escalated problems.Undertakes special projects based upon individual interests and requests of the Controller’s team (i.e. ad hoc and financial analysis, systems upgrades, process improvements).Assists in the development of the budget, forecast, long-range plan. Highlights cost reduction opportunities. What You Will Bring to Cabot Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.Minimum 3+ years of corporate accounting experience or a mix of corporate accounting/public accounting experience.CPA or CPA in progress a plus.Excellent Microsoft Excel skills,Experience with any ERP system.Extensive knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles and internal controls.Experience preparing journal entries and supporting documentation for complex accounting areas such as intercompany profit elimination, stock-based compensation, deferred compensation a plus.Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including with colleagues around the world, respecting diversity and cultural differences.Strong written / oral communication skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong organizational and workpaper documentation skills.Capacity to perform detailed analysis while understanding the big picture implication(s).Experience with SEC reporting a plus
