**Responsibilities:**
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Provides specialized support in various complex accounting functions such as Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Cost Accounting, General Accounting and the like. Prepares specialized reports and analyses. Submits recommendations for improved operations. Develops and installs difficult accounting systems, methods, procedures, and controls. Balances complex accounts. Prepares complex federal, local or state reports. Provides interpretation of accounts, methods and records for managers and officers. May provide work leadership to lower level accounting personnel on complex assignments, projects or tasks.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
+ Reviews complex financial data processed through accounting systems to isolate problem areas. Analyzes problems and makes recommendations for modifying or developing new segments of accounting system, including associated accounts, records, reports and controls for approval at higher levels. Prepares instruction for complex changes in accounting systems, interprets accounting systems data output to the Finance Department staff, provides consultative service to University officials and, as required, trains academic and administrative staff in accounting matters related to respective areas and advises and interprets accounting/budgeting relationships for them.
+ Designs financial reports and statements for University management, reflecting fiscal operations of specific programs, interprets trends and projects data into the future, and prepares reports for submission to Federal and State agencies regarding status of sponsored projects.
+ Performs complex cost finding analyses for use in recommending rates for redistribution of costs or recovery from third party sponsored programs.
+ Performs analyses and tests necessary to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances and timeliness of reporting. Makes day-to-day interpretations and decisions on the accounting treatment of financial transactions.
+ Monitors special purpose funds. Establishes accounting classifications and prepares reports in the status of such funds for department, investigators and deans. Develops systems of controls.
+ Consults with internal and external auditors on matters such as definition and classification of accounts, accounting activity in educational and research programs and other technical aspects of the University accounting system.
+ Organizes schedules and may supervise the work of subordinate technical and clerical employees engaged in a variety of accounting procedures. Assists or advises other Accountants on more difficult problems and interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures.

**MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent and 5 years of professional accounting experience required
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience
**LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS**
+ Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
