Sr Commissioning Analyst

Location:

This position’s assigned location is at the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant in Ludington, Michigan. The selected candidate may also be expected to travel to other Company locations in Michigan in support of EPM projects.


We are looking for: Sr Commissioning Analyst
 

The Sr Commissioning Analyst applies an intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering/commissioning principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields; makes decisions independently on engineering/commissioning problems and methods; and represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of his/her field and related sciences and disciplines.
 

This position will initially be responsible for leading a technical team overseeing all aspects of the Overhaul project commissioning at the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant.  The individual will be the responsible leader for the development, planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution of the commissioning plans.  Daily job duties will be dynamic and transition as the project progresses from the engineering phase through construction, startup, and closeout.  Must be willing to work daily at the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant near Ludington, MI, and work extended hours and long weeks as necessary during periods of high demand.  This position may also support other portfolio and major projects in varying capacities.

Ability to independently evaluate, select & apply engineering/commissioning theory to solve complex problems; taking new perspectives using existing solutions Knowledge and/or experience in utility operations and application of utility trends Application of utility business model Work well in a team environment while exemplifying safe work practices and following the company’s compliance standards Skill in supervisory practices/application supervising non-exempt employees and contractors Strong computer skills and knowledge of various Microsoft applications to assist with preparing commissioning management documents and to assist in design Excellent communication skills that utilize effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise to coworkers, AEs, vendors and other work groups Strong understanding of electrical equipment and industrial instrumentation and controls Strong understanding of testing standards (IEEE, NETA, etc), methods and the application thereof

Bachelor’s degree in technical, scientific, or related field with four (4) or more years of applicable experience [OR] Associate’s degree in technical, scientific, or related field with six (6) or more years of applicable experience [OR] High School Diploma with eight (8) or more years of applicable experience
 

Experience may include the following:
 

Reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, Piping and Instrument Diagrams, etc. Performing or managing instrument and mechanical component level testing such as instruments, controls, individual loop functions Performing or managing electrical component level testing on cables (LV,MV, HV), transformers, motors, pumps, valves, dampers, switchgear, MCC, system protection devices such as voltage transformers, current transformers, electromechanical, digital, and solid state relays, etc. Calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of process instrumentation, experience programming, and/or testing I&C systems such as DCS, PLC, and/or SCADA systems Hydrostatic, pneumatic, and/or other mechanical testing IEEE and NETA standards relative to acceptance and maintenance testing Performing or managing proof testing or system acceptance testing Planning and coordinating between various groups such as Operations, Maintenance and/or vendors to startup and commission equipment Problem solving and troubleshooting, experience developing and managing budgets, schedules, preparation of Commissioning plans, test plans or packages, and test program development Development and management of quality plans or program development, experience developing Operations and Maintenance procedures and training Experience or exposure to National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E, knowledge in OSHA 10 & 30 and safe work behaviors and practices, NERC standards and compliance, MPSC Gas code.

In this role, you will:

Oversee and/or create the testing/commissioning planning, implementation, quality control, scheduling and budgeting, and status reporting on a given construction project or group of projects ensuring standard practices are utilized. Responsible for precisely defining the scope of the testing and commissioning; preparing the testing and commissioning schedule, updating that schedule as it evolves and communicating progression to management. Coordinate equipment going online with plant resources and schedule all vendor supported startup of newly or modified equipment. Become familiar with plans and specifications, procedures and related material for each project and follow company established standard procedures for file structure and standard drawing procedures for projects. Develop design validation and Project turnover packages for EPM Projects for mechanical and electrical equipment, electronic devices, tools, plants, facilities and systems while applying the principles of motion, energy, force, and materials. Read and understand electrical and mechanical prints including wiring diagrams, schematics and P&ID’s and updating them to reflect the “As Built” condition. Active role in developing schedule with a moderate to large budgetary responsibility or impact (in both size and scope) for all assigned projects identifying and minimizing potential risks to the timeline and budget. May have supervisory responsibility for exempt, non-exempt employees and/or technical work groups performing checkout and startup on newly or modified existing equipment and systems. May mentor employees and/or lead the work of project teams. Leadership skills are developed, and expectations frequently include strategic activities such as multiyear planning. Coordinate Training for newly installed equipment. Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.
