Sr Crisis Specialist, Psych
Responsibilities **General Purpose:** Functions as a member of Strong Memorial Hospitals inpatient psychiatric and CPEP units serving complex mentally ill patients in crisis within the hospital in support of a therapeutic milieu. Maintains supervision of Crisis specialist staff to ensure consistent care and support is provided to patients. Assists in hiring and monitoring of staff and provide guidance under the direction of the department Director. **Responsibilities:** Support: Responds to mentally ill patients in crisis within the Psychiatric units at Strong Memorial Hospital. + Provides patients with engagement through discussion, activity and availability to support them in establishing emotional well-being + Supports patient's progress towards meeting goals established in their individual care plan. + Proactively recognize moments of stress for the patients and provide additional support in order to help maintain a therapeutic environment. Crisis Management: Crisis Specialists respond to a unit when there is a crisis or warning signs of a crisis noted by other providers. + The Crisis Specialists assist the patient and team with deescalating the situation. + Provide reassurance, validation and support within understanding of being trauma informed person centered in their approach. Safety: When determined necessary by nursing staff, the Crisis Specialists support the patient using physical restraint in order to assist the patient in calming and maintain their safety and the safety of others. + Crisis Specialists are required to be trained in CPI within 3 months of employment. Debriefing: Crisis Specialists and the support team debrief on the situation immediately following the interaction. + Ensure that the communication is constructive, understanding and learning focused to determine how situations can be avoided or resolved more efficiently in the future. + Debriefing that cannot take place with the supporting team takes place with the Director of the Crisis Specialists Team or Assistant Manager. Documentation: Crisis Specialist track their day by logging info learned on patient’s likes, dislikes, coping skills and best approaches in supporting the patients. Documentation is stored in Box so that it can be reviewed by team members and management each day. Shift coordination: Senior Crisis Specialists coordinate the staff for the shift in order to ensure all areas of need are covered. + Ensuring that the scheduled rotations within CPEP and the units are maintained, making arrangements to the rotation as needed based on staffing and monitoring staff performance. Senior Crisis Specialists assist in the onboarding and maintenance of staff including support in interviewing, training, documenting, and disciplinary conversations.
