At Kaman Corporation, the Sr. Database Administrator reports directly to the Manager of Infrastructure and is a member of the infrastructure team. This position is responsible for installing, managing, and controlling databases residing in our Database environment. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Complex database design and maintenance, systems optimization, security management, database and systems upgrades Researching, troubleshooting, and resolving performance and capacity issues Manage major database platforms: Progress OpenEdge, Oracle Manage Microsoft SQL DatabasesMonitor, tune, and optimize database/systems, including storage managementSupport installation and maintenance of database systems on all operating systems including Linux, including software releases, patches and systems upgradesAutomate recurring processes using scripting technologiesInteracts with peers and end-users to troubleshoot and resolve Systems issuesOther duties as assigned Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS 

Expert knowledge of Suse and Redhat Linux. Expert knowledge of Database and Systems performance toolsAdvanced problem-solving ability and interested in learningExcellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detailGood verbal and written communication skills.Ability to clearly and accurately document procedures. Strong interpersonal communication - works well in a team environment and interface with numerous stakeholdersExpert knowledge of Unix/Linux environmentsAbility to adapt and learn new skills and evolving technologies

 

EDUCATION/PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences or equivalent.4 - 7 years Database Administration experience. Experience must include:Working with mission critical databases running on the Linux platform: Progress (OpenEdge) and/or OracleMicrosoft SQL, Azure SQL InstancesScripting Certification and/ or training in Progress (OpenEdge) or Oracle database administrationCertification and/ or training in Microsoft SQL and Azure SQL administration

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

 

Because of the critical nature of support needs, this individual may be required to work on weekends and/or evenings and must be available to respond to "calls" and be on site within one hour of notification by the company.  This may include occasions when out-of-town travel is required on relatively short notice.

 

This is a hybrid position that requires incumbent to be onsite three (3) days per week in Bloomfield, CT.
