The anticipated salary range for this role is between $142,000.00 and $196,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

This role is for a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator and Engineer within the Information Systems department. Job duties include SQL Server DB environment (on-prem and in-cloud) maintenance, monitoring, DB installation, backup and restore, database replication, database development and tuning, user supports, security hardening such as CIS deployment and maintenance. The candidate will work within the DBA team and will interact with members of the infrastructure teams, front office developers, project managers, and business users. 
 
This position will be located in Jersey City, NJ or White Plains, NY offices. You will work in a fast-paced environment to provide support to the trading business for Front/Middle/Back office. The candidate must have strong knowledge of SQL Server on VM, Azure SQL, Database management, Database engineering and automation, Security enhancements including CIS benchmarks for SQL Server. Knowledge in usage, support, and administration of SSRS, SSIS and SSAS technologies is a plus. 
 

Role Objectives

•    Support SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022 platforms
•    Support and usage of SSRS, SSIS and SSAS technologies 
•    Support of SQL Server Always-On 
•    Provide system administration, troubleshooting, monitoring, DB installation, DB backup and restore, database replication setup and maintenance, database development and tuning, user supports, security hardening such as CIS deployment and maintenance
•    Research and recommend innovative solutions and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks
•    Implement monitoring tools and proactively implement improvement steps to prevent potential issues. Troubleshoot and solve incidents quickly to maintain the high availability environment
•    Carry out periodic Technology Recovery tests and On-Call Support rotation responsibilities.
•    Work with Cybersecurity and audit teams to satisfy security requirements
•    Late night and weekend work may be necessary at times for installations, patching, upgrades, and maintenance
•    Follow the change control processes and procedures
•    The candidate is required to update/maintain all documentation and will be tasked with improving such documentation as required
•    Maintain effective communication with all Infrastructure and Application teams and management
•    This role is required to be onsite on a hybrid schedule. 

Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for a SQL Server DBA Engineer with 10+ years of experience.
•    Experience with SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022
•    Experience with installation, configuration, and maintenance of SQL Servers on Windows VMs
•    Experience with installation, configuration, and maintenances of Always-On, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS
•    Experience with Windows 
•    Experience with high availability and disaster recovery, backups/restores
•    Understanding on change control, upgrade, and release deployment activities
•    Knowledge of database security, access control, monitoring, and auditing
•    Experience with DB authentication via AD or Azure AD
•    Experience with monitoring, tuning, and analyzing database performance

Experience that is a major plus:
•    Experience with Azure SQL DB’s and SQL VM’s, Always-On Availability Groups
•    Working experience in a financial environment
