We are currently looking for a Full Time 40hr Sr. DSP for our Brooklyn Residential Program

The schedule is Tuesday -Friday 1pm-9pm & Saturday 7am-3pm

Job Summary

The Senior Direct Support Professional (SDSP) is responsible for the overall supervision of his/her group or shift, including the services being provided to the individuals as well as supervision of staff. It is the Senior DSP’s responsibility to maintain the staff’s focus on maximizing both program services and personalized community inclusion opportunities for individuals, as well as providing for their overall physical and emotional well-being 

Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of Immediate Supervisor, the Senior DSP will: 

Billing Review - daily (services and content) 

Staff Time and Attendance (punch change requests etc..) 

Physical Plant Reviews / work orders / temp checks etc.. 

Fire Drill (observations & forms review); upload to SharePoint 

PONS Documentation review (where applicable) 

MAR Reviews 

Assist Medical Support Proffesionals if needed.  

In conjunction with the Program Planning Team (PPT), assist in developing and writing services, goals and outcomes for individuals based on the input of all relevant parties (the individual, his/her family members, MSC or case manager, DSPs who know individual well, etc.). Ensure that services, goals and outcomes reflect what the individual wants for himself/herself. Goal development process to include task analysis and methods for carrying out agreed upon goals. Goals to be reviewed monthly and/or updated/revised as determined by program specific responsibilities.  Supervise Direct Support Professionals in implementing agreed upon goals/valued outcomes and assisting them in training/teaching individual program participants. Ensure that support is provided with consideration for each person’s individualized needs and routines.  Participate in the PPT meetings for individuals for whom you are responsible and prepare written and/oral progress reports per specific program responsibilities.  Work with supervisor in scheduling direct support professionals as required in your position.  Assist in maintaining positive communications with family members, advocates, and service providers as per program needs.  Engage in ongoing and timely supervision of assigned Direct Support Professionals, including observations, individual monthly staff supervision and potentially provide input to Manager on annual performance appraisals (Senior DSP does not conduct the annual performance appraisal). In addition, provide input into probationary evaluations within the identified timeframe of 6 months for new staff.  Provide in-service training for assigned Direct Support Professionals, as required and deemed appropriate by the supervisor. Provide ongoing training to staff with regard to appropriate professional behavior, both at the program and while in the community. Participate in orientation of new staff by modeling direct services in program. Take advantage of and use every opportunity for the “teachable moment.” Ensure that assigned staff adheres to the agency's mission, vision, values, policies and procedures. Review staff temp checklists.  

Document necessary information and data in areas such as medical, behavioral, individualized services, goals and outcomes, fire safety, vehicle logs, community inclusion, communication books, etc., ensuring their accuracy and completeness. Reviews are expected to be highly detailed across: 

End of shift document reviews / communications (end of shift checklist to be provided by supervisor) 

Ensure that the Residence is properly stocked 

Ensure that the Residence is free from physical hazards 

Ensure that the staff are following proper time and attendance procedures 

Ensure that the staff are following proper assignment sheet / sign-in sheet usage procedures 

Review of staff documentation in PrecisionCare at end of shift 

Check goal data 

Ensure and provide appropriate levels of supervision for each individual within your group or shift on an individualized basis.  Oversee and implement individuals’ plans, consistent with their specific services, goals and outcomes. Participate in the planning and implementation of activities, both at the program and in the community, that address these goals and outcomes.  Promote choice and self-determination to support individuals to direct the course of their own lives.  Respect and affirm the human rights, civil rights and responsibilities of the people supported.  Ensure that supports are provided with consideration for each person’s individualized needs and routines. Support and teach individuals according to their services, goals and outcomes. Actively engage individuals in skills development, socialization and task participation across all settings.  Promote and support the inclusion of individuals in their community according to their unique needs, interests, and desires. Model and encourage interaction between individuals and community members. Foster individuals’ personal growth by assisting them in forming and maintaining friendships with neighbors, co-workers and peers.  Participate in staff meetings, in-service training and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attend external trainings and workshops at direction of direct supervisor or program management. Maintain certification in AMAP*, CPR/First Aid and SCIP, as required. *Note: Failure to maintain AMAP certification can result in removal from full time employee status.  Transport individuals or assist them in taking public transportation, as required.  Oversee and participate in planning recreational activities and outings.  Follow all agency policies and procedure, as well as state and federal regulations, to maintain compliance. Complete all written reports and documentation on a timely basis.  Actively engage in all program services such as toileting, showering, behavioral interventions, community inclusion, emergencies, meal prep, physical plant cleanliness, etc. as needed and required.  Safeguard and respect the confidentiality and privacy of all individuals.  Report all incidents to program management immediately upon discovery as per HeartShare policy and OPWDD & Justice Center requirements.  Ensure equipment and supplies are appropriately and safely stored.  Clean as frequently and thoroughly as necessary to meet program cleanliness standards. Report any hazards or unsafe conditions immediately to supervisor.  Maintain professionalism by using positive approaches when handling difficult situations. Avoid gossip and negative discussions. Be flexible and adapt to change.  Advocate appropriately and professionally on behalf of individuals.  Serve as a role model for individuals and co-workers. Abide by division’s dress code. Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.  Remain sensitive, respectful and responsive to cultural differences of all individuals, program staff and the surrounding community.  Undertake any additional tasks and initiatives as per the specific needs of the programs and individuals and as assigned by supervisor.  Meet or exceed the DSP Core Competencies Standards by the end of the 1st year of employment.  Check on MAR Signatures each shift.  Perform other duties as assigned by Program Supervision and/or Upper Administration.   Please note that this job description can be amended at any time due to changing program needs.
