Sr Director - IT Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM)

About this role:

Our Technology Strategy and Operations team is seeking a Sr Director and dynamic leader to be the enterprise representative for IT Strategic Portfolio Management. You will drive product strategy and will implement SPM capabilities and processes to be utilized across the IT department. This pivotal role will interact with all levels across the department including Senior IT Leadership.

What you will do:

Responsible for the direction and leadership of the corporate portfolio management function. Oversee top-level view of strategic, major operational and capital strategies, initiatives, and investments. Lead a small team of system administrators managing the tool day-to-day.

Build capabilities on timing and anticipated value of initiatives and investments, tracks progress and helps to identify potential conflicts and dependencies to streamline execution. 

Work closely with senior leaders and IT PMO leads in an ongoing manner to create, facilitate, engage, maintain, and coordinate the activities of the Tech portfolio across Gartner IT.

Establishing, meeting and continuously monitoring goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic and foundational goals and objectives for Gartner IT.

Developing and directing the systems and processes that ensure strategic alignment of the Gartner IT portfolio via standard SPM tools to coordinate enterprise Strategic Portfolio Management activities. 

Guides the establishment and necessary revisions of standard processes for corporate initiative intake, prioritization, communication of the corporate portfolio, resource deployment, progress monitoring, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the portfolio. 

Lead system level efforts to evaluate, identify, and shepherd the implementation of necessary support structures to the execution of the System Portfolio including but not limited to enterprise software, staffing, and other tech investments. 

Facilitating the development and management of the corporate dashboard performance measures and monitor portfolio relevance and performance by tracking progress towards measurable targets. 

Supports nimble strategic planning efforts, understand and align interdependencies between planning projects and initiatives and addresses risks and barriers across the system and portfolio. 

Lead the effort to make the strategic portfolio a system level portfolio and ensure alignment across Gartner IT. 

Support moving the organization from basic awareness of the corporate portfolio, to using it as a guiding star to make business decisions. Through strategic communication this position will drive excitement and visibility of the strategic plan and associated portfolio/initiatives and support alignment to drive towards our vision of a world class IT organization. 

Continue to advance alignment of business planning to execution, as well as supporting ongoing monitoring of benefits realization as defined in the business plans.

Serves as the programmatic and operational leader for portfolio management and reports to the Technology Strategy and Operations leadership. 

Enable IT Leadership to seamlessly adopt a process culture, standards, governance, and methodologies including  planning

Work across the IT organization to facilitate use of business information systems and business intelligence tools to enhance associate effectiveness and business decision-making capability.

Interact with a diverse team of top performing professionals and leaders through the strategic and day to day execution of the core operational functions within IT.

What you will need:

12 to 14 years progressive technology experience managing tool driven strategic portfolio management initiatives for a large tech organization.

Preferably in a strategy, operations or business consulting role, including 10+ years being responsible for strategic operations, executive reporting and the development and deployment of global teams. Knowledge of IT business systems and engineering SDLC cycles strongly preferred.

MBA strongly preferred with an undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as engineering or mathematics.

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver compelling executive-level presentations. Excellent verbal & written communication skills with demonstrated ability to convey complex concepts and analyses in an accessible and compelling way.

Strong knowledge of tech operations practices with a proven ability to establish trusted business relationships across business units, gain consensus and drive action from a large, diverse global set of constituents.

Results-oriented with excellent business vision and strategic thinking and a proven track record of solving complex problems, thinking creatively and successfully drawing the larger business story out of facts and data.

Demonstrated ability to lead projects and teams in a fast-paced environment and to inspire rapid adoption of change in a complex matrixed organization with distributed virtual teams.

Scrum/Agile certification, PMP certification preferred
