**Job Title:** Sr Director Lab Informatics Implementation and Standardization

**Summary:**
The Senior Director of Lab Systems, Implementation and Standardization for the Department Pathology and Laboratory Medicine provides strategic leadership and comprehensive oversight of laboratory informatics, supply chain management, and the standardization of lab operation initiatives across Penn Medicine. The incumbent is responsible for the implementation and optimization of technology and clinical workflows involving technology for the lab departments, identifying organizational goals and timelines through consultation with hospital/health system leadership, designing standards for newly constructed laboratories, business recovery and continuity processes during downtime, and providing leadership, support, and recommendations for operational process improvement and systems-based initiatives. The incumbent will act as a lead path and lab partner for various teams to ensure alignment within the health system, while assessing vendor services, driving alignment/standardization, and ensuring cost containment within our lab locations and collection sites.
The position requires expertise necessary to oversee the operational, risk-based decision making for large scale departmental, Hospital, and health system-wide deployments requiring change management models and systems thinking. The Senior Director can communicate and facilitate the Department of Path and Lab Medicine’s initiatives by proficiently managing and directing fluctuating workloads and timeframes; triaging priorities; working independently within a large, complex organization; and employing evidence-based practice, best practice, and data, along with cost analysis in decision making.
In addition to leading and influencing across the system, this role is responsible for managing a team within the Department, including full-cycle employee management. This includes interviewing, hiring, and firing, addressing HR issues, and autonomously managing the employees' to ensuring their ongoing success and professional development.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Internal Partnerships: Leads Hospital/Health System initiatives and assist in achieving the required change in process and workflow. Monitors and ensures project timing meets established goals. Collaborates with the department Chair, Vice Chairs and Chief Operating Officer to develop and implement strategic goals for the department/health system. Ensured alignment of participation and communication across departmental and health system entities. Provides ongoing review opportunities within the department, providing recommendations to further optimize the structure and service of the evolving Health System Laboratory concept. Provides leadership, education, motivation and guidance in the implementation and sustainment of information programs and culture in the laboratory setting. Work closely with project teams to ensure that standard implementation approach is developed and used across all entities. Strengthen the data and information capabilities of pathology through governance and championship of a data-driven environment.
+ External partnerships: Ensure proactive and effective vendor/supplier relationships to optimize engagement, contract negotiation, and industry partnerships. Manage relationships with external vendors and outsourced providers, ensuring effective delivery of technology services and solutions.
+ Change Management: Proactively develops and implements change management strategy for major organizational activities and events within the department in alignment with UPHS objectives. Recognizes the systemic impact of employee communication and/or policy changes and solicits proactive feedback prior to implementation. Identifies and facilitates agreement of major messages which are consistent, credible, and reflect UPHS’ core values. Effectively manages routine and crisis communication plans throughout the entity/community as they arise. Ensures appropriate follow-up of major issues. Evaluates effectiveness of change and implementation plans.
+ Financial Management: Facilitate streamlined contracting and equipment use and purchasing to maximize health system resources, space and staff. Leverage best practices for LIS systems and middleware to create optimal operations while promoting positive financial outcomes.
+ Technological Advancement: Drive the adoption of standardized, modern technologies, tools, and methodologies to accelerate development and improve operational efficiency; champion the use of relevant technologies to deliver scalable and secure solutions, including generative AI and data analysis. Address organizational technical debt as needed to mitigate business risk, support future business growth and execute department strategy. Partner with the Vice Chair for Digital Pathology to advance the use and standardization of Digital Path across the system.
+ Business Continuity: Maintain comprehensive disaster recovery and business resumption plans, communication protocols, and escalation procedures to ensure the availability and continuity of critical systems and business operations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement robust information security policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard the company's digital assets and sensitive data and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and data retention policies.

Credentials:
**Education or Equivalent Experience:**
+ Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
+ 10+ years operational functions and services of a major academic medical center, health system, or institute.
+ 5+ years experience managing high volume clinical labs while meeting superior customer satisfaction expectations.
