Summary:
The Senior Director of Logistics will oversee the strategic planning, execution, and daily operations of the North American logistics network. This role demands a dynamic leader with extensive experience in managing multi-plant logistics within the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) sector. The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales, Finance, and Information Systems to ensure efficient and timely product delivery and effective warehouse management. The Senior Director of Logistics will align logistics activities with the company's financial objectives and industry trends, drive digital transformation, and manage a Center of Excellence.
Essential Job Functions:
Manage and Optimize Logistics Network: Oversee a logistics network with multiple manufacturing locations (30+ plants, 50+ warehouses), collaborating with suppliers and internal stakeholders. Freight negotiation and vendor management (carriers, brokers and rail roads). Personnel and Organizational Management: Lead both strategic (logistics strategy, network optimization, vendor forecasting) and execution functions (freight negotiation, inventory planning, inventory control, materials and warehouse management). Implement Logistics Tools: Identify and deploy best-in-class logistics tools for forecasting and planning, including detailed implementation such as modeling supply constraints and setting item attributes (lead times, EOQ/MOQs). Build End-to-End Logistics Process: Develop a comprehensive logistics process from customer inputs to supplier forecasts. Best Practices Implementation: Apply best practices across all logistics functions, including logistics planning (delivery goals, S&OP processes, FG inventory strategies), supply planning (non-FG inventory strategies, capacity planning, realistic plan creation), planning execution (work order and purchase order creation, finite scheduling, vendor management), and order management, fulfillment, and inventory management. Inventory Accuracy and Timeliness: Control routines and systems that support the inventory control processes performed by production facilities and warehouses. Propose new solutions and assess current standards. Performance Metrics: Develop, implement, and meet targets for key performance indicators at various levels (line, manager, executive), including inventory control, forecast accuracy, capacity utilization/efficiency, schedule adherence, lead times, inventory turns, in-stock performance/on-time delivery, and excess/obsolete inventory. Operational Excellence: Drive operational excellence and best practices to enhance purchasing, inventory turns, and manufacturing costs. Supplier Relationship Management: Manage supplier relationships and strategy, developing a world-class supply base focused on cost, delivery, and quality. KPI Management: Develop and manage all key performance indicators related to logistics performance. Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with key stakeholders, including Manufacturing Operations, Sales, Procurement, and Finance, to drive continuous improvement and ensure on-time, complete, and compliant deliveries to customers. Real Estate / Lease Administration: coordinate Real Estate team and act as the liaison between Refresco and landlords/brokers. Logistics Planning and Execution: Lead logistics planning, coordination, and execution, including the selection and management of third-party logistics partners. Digital Transformation: Drive digital transformation initiatives to modernize logistics processes, enhance data analytics capabilities, and improve overall operational efficiency. Center of Excellence: Establish and manage a Center of Excellence to drive best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement in logistics operations.Required Skills:
Strong analytical, financial, and P&L skills. In-depth knowledge of key logistics processes and current best practices. Ability to interact and execute at the highest levels of the company. Strong purchasing, negotiation, planning, and materials knowledge. Ability to drive projects to successful completion. Demonstrated track record supporting new product and/or customer introduction (for all aspects of the logistics). Ability to hire, coach, develop, motivate, and assess performance of a multi-person team. Identify and anticipate internal and external logistics initiatives and requirements and implement them in a timely manner. Ability to lead a logistics team and assist the total team through various multi-functional agendas to a successful reconciled position. Ability to manage multiple priorities within required timeframes. Familiarity with decision support tools for logistics management and execution.Competencies:
Understanding of Human Resources management processes related to hiring and development. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure vision, direction, and requirements are clearly and consistently communicated internally and externally. Knowledge of ERP/DRP/MRP planning systems. Familiarity with technologies such as EDI, ASN’s, RFID, etc. Familiarity with manufacturing operations and KPIs. Project Management skillsEducation and Experience:
10+ years of logistics management experience in progressively senior positions; operations experience is an asset. A minimum of a BS/BA degree in a relevant field. Professional certifications in Operations, Purchasing, or Logistics are a plus.
