Sr Engineering Lead

Job Title: Capital Delivery: Project Leader (Electrical)

Location: Atlanta GA, Dallas TX, Cleveland OH, Granville OH, Chicago IL, Los Angles CA, Savannah GA, Cincinnati OH and within 50 miles of a major airport.

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

The Capital Delivery Project Leader is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient use of Roofing and Asphalt (R&A) capital resources, being a fully engaged member of the Capital Delivery Team, and accountable for defining/executing capital investment projects in our 29 manufacturing facilities (16 Roofing and 13 Asphalt plants). Goals are zero injuries to OC employees or contractors, on-time project delivery, project spending consistent within budget expectations, researching & developing proposed business solutions, and overall excellent project management skills.  In addition, expect the Project Leader to be aligned with organizational goals of eliminating injuries through engineering design, perfect quality systems and a waste free environment. 

The Project Leader will assist in creating reliability systems along with supporting the manufacturing facilities in order to provide optimum operational conditions in the safest and most cost-effective manner.

The successful candidate is a leader of capital project efforts and of people. The successful candidate must manage projects by guiding Process owners, Plant Leaders with manufacturing staff, Process (Stable Operations) Engineers, Product Managers, and Capital Sourcing through the project schedule to perform on time and on budget.

This position has no direct reports.

 JOB DUTIES:

This position entails project and technical leadership for all facets of electrical and mechanical equipment definition, design, and implementation for R&A’s process equipment throughout the United States. The process equipment in question is used to take a continuous web of fiber glass mat and convert this web into shingles using other raw materials and conversion equipment.  Typical raw materials include oxidized asphalt, pulverized filler, various surfacing granule materials, films, and adhesives. Examples of conversion equipment include cutting, combining, catching/stacking, and packaging.  Additionally, there are many types of supporting processes such as, hot oil systems, compressed air, chillers, environmental controls, etc.  There is a wide range of customer products that used to protect and enhance the appearance of residential homes and commercial businesses.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                 

Live the Safety stand and adhere to the safety responsibilities. Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules with plant input, including maintenance personnel. Effectively leads capital projects from concept to completion so that timing & spending is within expectations so that the maximum benefit is achieved with company resources. Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to effectively communicate with people across all levels of the organization. Lead multiple electrical projects simultaneously through networking with engineering firms including Alliance Partners, contracted resources, as well as organizing fellow project managers. Develop capital approval requests, ensure the requested funding is consistent with all project requirements so that approved amount is not exceeded. Analyze systems, research options, and determine the most optimum cost/benefit relationship to deliver capital projects. Ensure compliance with all electrical codes at a local and national level. Ensure all projects are delivered consistent with scope and expectations around operability and cost. Engage in process commissioning and startup operations. Utilize problem solving, active listening, and objective analysis skills. Lead troubleshooting process issues and developing corrective actions & recommendations. Apply experience with combustion & environmental emission controls devices. Ability to adapt in various working environments (remote home office, while traveling, and manufacturing plant floor) Lead and influence teams as project scopes change and be able to control the project deliverables through commissioning/start-up. Support the multi-plant network with troubleshooting, design, maintenance, and loss prevention assistance when needed. Serve as the subject matter expert on electrical engineering process improvements.

 KNOWING OUR CUSTOMERS:

Reach mutually beneficial agreements with all supported operating departments on required capacity specifications, in terms of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) or similar metric that measures capacity losses related to quality, availability, and performance. Identify, understand, and teach others about Capital Delivery Procedures required to provide our manufacturing sites with reliable and productive equipment/machinery. Develop and implement procedures and systems to ensure equipment consistently meets or exceeds design expectations. Support the R&A sites to ensure they meet our customer’s needs. 

SUPPORTING CAPITAL PROJECTS & MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS:

Analyze machine and process data, provide feedback and making recommendations to optimize performance; ensure effective use and integration of information & new technologies. Network with other engineers, site employees, S&T, and other relevant groups to identify and implement best practices for continuous improvement of plant performance metrics. Document Maintenance Deliverables (startup and critical spare hardware) for capital projects. Enforce a comprehensive Engineering Management of Change (MOC) process. Aid in the development and implementation of the plant capital plan.

 LOCATION & TRAVEL:

Within 30 miles of one of our Owens Corning Roofing Facilities, or 50 miles from a major U.S. airport hub.

This position requires 40-45% travel, and with previous travel experience.

JOB MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering Plant experience: held previous plant or manufacturing leadership roles 10+ years’ experience in Electrical Engineering 5+ years in electrical project management; small to large $1MM to $5MM total project cost Experience utilizing Microsoft Office products

 Other desirable attributes:

TPM & EM Pillar experience LEAN manufacturing involvement Professional engineer   6 Sigma Black or Green belt Project Management Professional Rockwell Academy of Advanced Manufacturing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Electric Power Delivery knowledge including switchgear, transformers, conductor and conduit sizing, through knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70) and NFPA 70E. General understanding of all applicable electrical codes. Rockwell ControlLogix and FactoryTalk programming awareness. Intellution Ignition programming awareness. Allen Bradley variable frequency and servo drive troubleshooting and configuration. SIL3 safety standards, machine guarding, and safety validation. Project Management software whether it is Microsoft Project or similar vendor. Basic knowledge in mechanical and chemical processes. Instrumentation PID control in temperature, pressure, flow, and level. Process communication/Ethernet communication (Rockwell Stratix) and design of network systems. Supervision of mechanical / electrical designers in the development of designs for process equipment: Hardware selection, drawings, layouts, and interface diagrams. Configuration mechanical drive systems, understanding of approaches (torque, velocity, position control) Works with counterparts on software development for HMI interfaces Experience in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), equipment checkout, debugging, commissioning, and start up activities of process equipment. Broad range of experience in industrial hardware (pumps, motors, conveyors, process equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.) Basic understanding of electrical engineering schemes & controls for effective interface with electrical engineering colleagues in design of process equipment.

While not a pre-requisite for this position, experience with the following hardware/software is desirable:

Use of Auto Cad Design Software, Solid works Software, and other related design packages. Use and interface of programming of Siemens controllers, Mettler-Toledo scales, Rosemount, and Vega instruments.I-NM1
