What this job involves: This senior-level position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing critical facility equipment across all systems in a pharmaceutical environment. The role requires advanced technical expertise in HVAC maintenance and troubleshooting, with additional skills in plumbing, electrical work, and other related disciplines. The position involves on-call duties and responsibilities across multiple buildings, ensuring optimal performance of all systems crucial to pharmaceutical operations.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Respond to and resolve critical alarms promptly, taking immediate action and initiating follow-up procedures as necessary. You are responsible for all alarms during your shift.Monitor, adjust, and maintain complex systems including HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, VAV systems, emergency backup systems, and hot water systems. This includes making necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment.Perform preventive maintenance on specialized pharmaceutical equipment and all base building and critical system equipment. This involves assembling tools and supplies, minimizing disruption, cleaning work areas, and reporting issues to the Chief Engineer.Conduct repairs and installations across multiple technical disciplines, including plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC systems. This may involve wiring motors, running conduit, rebuilding pumps and air compressors, and maintaining various controls.Manage and prioritize work orders in the CMMS, reviewing existing orders and creating new tickets as needed.Supervise contractors and third-party maintenance providers working on house equipment.Maintain detailed documentation, analyze system data for continuous improvement, and develop recommendations for maintenance changes, upgrades, or replacements in collaboration with the Chief Engineer.Ensure compliance with GMP and other pharmaceutical industry regulations, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.Collaborate with the Hard Services Team regarding equipment conditions and maintenance strategies.Identify and recommend improvements to faulty or inefficient systems.Perform routine facility repairs and maintain a clean, safe workspace.Crosstrain colleagues and maintain specialized tools and supplies.Capture all appropriate R&M data on work orders, including material costs and labor efforts.Be routinely available as an "On Call" craftsperson, ready to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7AM – 4PM (with overtime and on-call responsibilities)
Desired or preferred experience and technical skills:
Associate's degree in HVAC or related field preferredValid certifications in HVAC (e.g., NATE, HVAC Excellence)Extensive experience with pharmaceutical-grade HVAC systems, including clean roomsAdvanced knowledge of centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and VAV systemsStrong understanding of electrical systems and emergency backup systemsExpertise in plumbing and piping systems relevant to pharmaceutical facilitiesAbility to read and interpret complex technical documentationProficiency with CMMS software and data analysis toolsExperience in a GMP-regulated environmentRequired Skills and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent5+ years of experience in HVAC maintenance, preferably in pharmaceutical or similar regulated industriesThorough knowledge of OSHA standards, local codes, and GMP requirementsExcellent communication skills (oral and written) for effective reporting and team collaborationAdvanced proficiency in using specialized tools and equipmentPhysical ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and on roofsWillingness to be on call 24/7 and work in various environmental conditionsStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailProficiency in computer-based systems, including Microsoft Office suiteValid driver's license and clean driving record
Estimated total compensation for this position:
58,240.00 – 104,000.00 USD per yearThe total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
