Primary Responsibilities:
Developing and implementing a patch management strategy for servers, ensuring timely patching of operating systems, applications, and firmware Conducting regular vulnerability assessments to identify security gaps and prioritize patching requirements Planning and executing patch deployments, considering factors like server availability, business impact, and change management processes Assessing the risk associated with each patch and determining the appropriate testing and deployment approach Collaborating with testing teams to perform testing on patches before deployment to identify any conflicts or issues Maintaining accurate records of patch deployments, testing results, and any issues encountered during the process Collaborating with the incident response team to ensure the timely resolution of security incidents related to unpatched vulnerabilities Ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies related to patch management Collaborating with various stakeholders, such as system administrators, network teams, and application owners, to ensure effective communication and coordination during the patching process Generating regular reports on patch management activities, including patch status, compliance levels, and any outstanding vulnerabilities Monitoring server performance post-patching to identify any issues or impacts and taking appropriate actions to address them Participating in post-incident investigations to determine the root cause of vulnerabilities or breaches and proposing remediation plans Identifying opportunities for automation and streamlining patch management processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy Conducting training sessions for system administrators and other relevant teams to enhance their understanding of patch management best practices Collaborating with vendors to stay informed about new patches, software updates, and security advisories Working closely with the Change Management team to ensure proper documentation and coordination of patching activities within the organization's change control processes Contributing to disaster recovery planning efforts by ensuring that server patching is considered and aligned with overall recovery strategies Continuous Improvement: Continuously assessing and enhancing the server patching process by evaluating metrics, gathering feedback, and implementing improvements to mitigate risks and enhance the organization's security posture Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). In-depth understanding of server operating systems like Windows Server, Linux/Unix, network infrastructure, and patch management tool on Tanium Solid understanding of patch management principles, processes including knowledge of vulnerability assessment, patch deployment strategies, and patch testing methodologies Understanding of virtualization technologies, and server hardware Knowledge of security frameworks and standards, such as CIS Benchmarks or NIST for assessing patch risks and ensuring compliance Ability to support US based shift timings
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate who can demonstrate expertise and dedication to the field Experience in managing patching projects, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation Knowledge on patch management tools like SCCM, WSUSAt UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone.
