Description Plans, coordinates and manages comprehensive local media coverage and media relations activities for the hospital and collaborates with Health Sciences Communications on regional and national media opportunities. Manages relationships with local, regional and national news media organizations to coordinate positive public communications messages to all target audiences. Primary responsibilities include managing daily interaction with news media organizations to communicate positive public messages regarding the hospital and all of its activities, conducting media training, and assisting with crisis and issues management. Coordinates all entity-based media coverage, including interviews, photography and videography/filming activities. Works with staff and physicians to prepare for interviews and coaches them for on-camera presence and appropriate messaging. Supervises external media during shoots/production to ensure minimal disruption to clinical activities. Writes and distributes press releases, pitches and other information to media. Maintains familiarity with various media outlets in metro Atlanta, surrounding territory and beyond to keep abreast of trends and market data. Develops strong working relationships with media outlets that will enhance presence in key markets. Serves as hospital spokesperson. Responsible for collaboration of internal and external communications for designated health care entity, including crisis and issues management support. Maintains in-depth knowledge of entity-based service lines and integrates insights into complete communications perspective in coordination with strategic plans. Collaborates with and serves as a liaison to system directors of media relations, marketing and internal communications to ensure that all areas support the key objectives in growing business, and that content is consistent with the overall Emory Healthcare messages and branding, while meeting the strategic objectives of the Emory Healthcare system. Counsels the senior management team regarding impact of media relations/marketing plans and cost-effectiveness of media expenditures. Provides marketing and communications support for entity-based initiatives. Responsible for marketing consultation, writing and editing printed materials in support of the hospital's clinical subspecialty centers and other key affiliates. Supports program implementation for key hospital clinical specialty centers. Writes and edits ongoing internal and external publications and promotional materials. Consults with team members to communicate goals of media relations/marketing activities and develop alternative strategic solutions. Develops and implements changing media strategy in response to competitive initiatives.Studies demographics, consumer profiles and competitor strategies to identify desired targeted audiences and adapts or develops plans accordingly.MINIMUM QUALIFICIATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a marketing/communications discipline, such as Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing, Mass Communications, Political Science, or a related field. Minimum five years experience in communications, media, marketing, public relations or crisis management. Demonstrates specific success with managing and coordinating news media coverage and the implementation of public/media relations campaigns. Experience should include media interview skills, story development, pitching, news writing and overall content creation. Candidate must have an understanding of how news media organizations operate, as well as knowledge regarding state and federal health care regulations and associations.Additional Details
