· Make an Impact! The Manager of Risk Prevention and Patient Safety has the responsibility to focus on proactive risk identification and assessment and the efficiency and effectiveness of risk prevention and patient safety programs across MLHS and its affiliates. In addition to avoidance and prevention techniques, the Manager, Risk Prevention and Patient Safety must have a strong knowledge of the science of patient safety and reliability, healthcare regulatory compliance and traditional healthcare risk management. Experience in education and problem-solving is critical to this position, as well as critical thinking and implementation techniques. The Manager will provide support and oversight for investigations resulting from serious patient safety events and near misses and will have responsibility for the continuous improvement of the root cause analysis process and sharing of action plans across MLHS. Competencies must include analytical and creative thinking skills, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work cooperatively. This position will identify potential risks and use appropriate modalities including orientation, education and training, process, and performance improvement to increase awareness and promote the reduction of risk and harm to patients. The Manager, Risk Prevention and Patient Safety will play a key role in MLHS Patient Safety initiatives and in promoting a just culture that emphasizes everyone's responsibility and accountability for keeping patients safe.

Essential Accountabilities:
Facilitate analysis of data at a campus and system level with the support of Patient Safety/Risk Managers (PS/RM) and Patient Safety Data Administrator Develop appropriate interventions and/or techniques and on-going education to correct and avoid risk-prone activities; develop implementation strategies with campus PS/RM; monitor new processes/programs for efficiency and effectiveness. Assume the lead role in managing the electronic event reporting system, the serious event database (portal) the recall system and other tools and applications needed to maintain all data and an organized infrastructure for all work. Provide continuous education on relevant aspects of patient safety, risk management, reliability science, regulations, standards and best practice information to relevant departments, staff, and physicians. Support and participate in the general orientation and mandatory annual education process of MLH as requested which will include annual review of PS/RM course content Serve as an internal consultant to all MLHS departments, services, programs and entities in planning processes to incorporate proactive Risk Prevention, Patient Safety and Loss (Claims) Prevention into patient care and operational processes.Experience:
Minimum of 5 years experience in an acute care hospital. Previous education and /or teaching experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Risk Management and Patient Safety experience within a healthcare setting required. Management experience required. Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills. Familiarity with and ability to work with databases, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, communication, and internet applications. Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, statistical analysis, and clinical experience in a healthcare profession. Knowledge of all phases of patient care, hospital policies, procedures, and healthcare laws generally acquired through education and/or experience. Familiarity with The Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals, DOH, COPs, OSHA Regulations.
Education:
Bachelors' degree in a healthcare-related field required; Masters' degree in a healthcare-related field strongly preferred.
Licensures & Certifications:
Current PA clinical licensure required. Certification in Healthcare Risk Management is strongly preferred. Patient Safety certification strongly preferred or in progress.
