Position Summary

Brookfield Properties Retail in Chicago is a reporting subsidiary of Brookfield Property Partners in New York City who is owned by Brookfield Corporation in Toronto.  This role is primary responsible for leading a team through timely completion of multiple reporting deliverables.  Such deliverables include reviewing and analyzing the consolidated financial statements compiled on behalf of our parent entity on an IFRS basis for its SEC filing.  In addition, this role will handle consolidated reporting for lender and joint venture requirements under GAAP.  The Company is subject to high volume of transaction activity including unique/complex ones that will require this role to perform technical accounting assessments requiring cross-department collaboration.

ResponsibilitiesOversee the consolidated IFRS reporting for over $30 billion of managed investments in the retail sector, including review of disclosure information and financial analysis prepared on behalf of our parent entity for its public reporting.Oversee the reporting for various fund and joint venture arrangements under GAAP.Effectively manage relationship with parent entity and serve as their main point of contact.Coordinate with all departments to ensure expectations and deadlines are properly communicated and all necessary reporting information is timely and accurately obtained.Own relationship with Finance and Valuations teams to ensure that fair value principles are appropriately applied and accurately reflected in financial statements.Advise and discuss with the Investments team on the potential accounting implications for transactions within pipeline.Effectively manage a team of 7, overseeing tasks, projects and workload while focusing on their coaching and development.Oversee completion and assist in presenting the quarterly results to the parent entity, including reviewing and accurately articulating consolidated analytics over key reporting metrics such as NOI and FFO. Provide regular status updates to the Vice President and Director of Financial Reporting including items of high priority.Perform technical accounting research summarizing findings in memorandum format that outline the Company’s position and the impact to the financial statements across both accounting bases.Coordinate with external auditors to ensure providing accurate and timely support for audits and address all audit matters that arise. Own multiple financial reporting SOx controls ensuring accurate preparation and timely approvals.Continually challenge the reporting processes and identify improvements to reduce manual processes moving towards greater automation.Take a leadership role in Company’s two-year project to implement a new enterprise reporting system (Yardi).

Qualifications           

Accounting degree from reputable college required.CPA required.Knowledge of public reporting and GAAP required.  IFRS knowledge strong plus.At least 7 years of experience with 4 years minimum of public accounting experience (preferably big four)Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels of an organization.Excellent leadership and project management skills with experience managing a team of 5 or greater.Strong personal initiative, proactiveness, results oriented and resourceful.Exhibits sense of urgency, ownership and a commitment to achieving the Company’s goals and an ability to overcome obstacles.Ability to handle a large volume of work with tight deadlines, and ad-hoc requests as required.Expertise in technical accounting research, analysis and financial reporting requirements.Understanding of consolidation principles such as equity method, noncontrolling interest and eliminations.Excellent written skills with experience outlining conclusions in memorandum format in an accurate and concise manner.Strong communicator with the ability to run high level meetings efficiently.Strategic thinker that challenges the status quo to continually improve upon existing processes.Real estate experience preferred.OneStream, JDE and/or Yardi experience a plus.
