Sr Network Engineer

Job Summary
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer role is responsible to provide oversight and participate in the architecture, design, engineering, testing and implementation phases of multiple IT projects to ensure the confidential, integrity, and availability of Patterson's information assets and systems. The role is recognized as the subject matter expert in multiple IT domains and platforms and provides Infrastructure consultation on both IT and Business projects across the organization.

Essential Functions

Lead and participate in the design, implementation, deployment, integration and engineering of Infrastructure solutions to include new solutions and enhancements to existing IT solutions within assigned technology area(s)

Provide subject matter expertise of baselines to monitor systems and applications for IT related issues; proactively monitor to identify potential issues and consult on resolutions

Provide guidance, and contribute to the creation of standards, processes, and procedures, ensure accurate and timely updates, and identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance efficiency

Assist team with prioritization of escalated alerts, service requests, and incidents based on impact of issue; provide assistance and/or training as appropriate

Seek out, and actively collaborate, with IT and business stakeholders to prioritize IT risks, provide mitigation or remediation recommendations, and implement IT controls

Provide information to appropriate teams to ensure updated documentation and knowledge management within assigned technology area(s)

Comply with Company and department policies and standards; performs other duties as assigned


Essential Functions: Corporate

Designs, maintains and optimizes networks solutions

Troubleshoots and resolve complex network issues

Works with other engineers to ensure the ongoing stability and security of the network

Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation reflecting the current state of the environment

Stays up-to-date on the latest security threats and vulnerabilities

Participates in on-call rotation

Provides guidance and training to junior team members


Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Technology, or related area or equivalent education and/or experience 

5+years experience in network engineering or architecture, preferably in large scale-hybrid environment

Ability to work outside of standard daytime hours as the business requires

Ability to travel to data centers in the Twin Cities and out of state areas as needed

Deep understanding of network design, implementation, and management of network infrastructure projects.

Industry-recognized certifications such as (CCNP, JNCIS, PCNSE, Azure Network Engineer Associate)

Deep understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, MPLS, OSPF), network security concepts, routing protocols, switching technologies, and network management tools.

Experience with Juniper, Palo Alto, Arista and Cisco

Preferred Azure cloud technologies experience 

Preferred IaaC tools experience such as Terraform and bicep 


The potential compensation range for this role is below. The final offer amount would be based on various factors such as candidate location (geographical labor market), experience, and skills. $106,400.00 - $133,000.00
