Position Specific Description

Supports the NextEra Energy fleet, both in the regulated and deregulated markets.  Responsible for improving the reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness of our fossil fleet.  Must be able to conduct root cause analysis and effectively communicate recommendations to our customers from the most junior level of the organization up to and including our Executive VP team. This position’s primary focus will involve providing support for all mechanical Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment, including heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), piping, welding, heat exchangers/condensers, and valves throughout the fleet. 


Areas of Responsibility:

Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for combined cycle BOP equipment  Conducts analysis and makes recommendations to improve equipment reliability across our entire fleet of fossil power plants  Leverages technology to develop exception-based automated alerting to identify opportunities to understand fleet equipment health Plan, organize, and guide extensive technical programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance focused primarily but not necessarily limited to BOP equipment. Provide remote and onsite troubleshooting support, both in Florida and out of state with some overnight travel required. Negotiate critical and controversial issues with internal management and vendor organizations. Maintain professional relationships with equipment and service providers and their representatives. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Preferred) 5+ years of relevant experience with fossil powered generating technologies and/or industrial process facilities Technical Ability to quickly digest data available from disparate sources, balance competing requirements of the organization, and provide sound technical recommendations Critical thinking skills to apply sound engineering judgement when available data is incomplete, incorrect, or conflicting. Working knowledge of BOP equipment operations, maintenance, and common failure modes General understanding of valve/HRSG manufacturing, quality control, and testing processes Well-versed in AMSE codes and standards for BOP equipment include but not limited to ASME BPVC, B31.1, B16.34 Knowledge of piping design including material selection, stress analysis, and hanger selection Familiarity with shieled metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) techniques and considerations Familiarity with common power plant NDE techniques including ultrasonic testing, dye penetrant testing, and hardness testing Strong computer skills including experience with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), IBM Maximo, and Plant Data Historians i.e. PI Processbook Ability to read an interpret operating plant documentation including but not limited to piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), isometrics, general arrangement drawings, datasheets, and installation and assembly drawings Communication Ability to concisely present and justify assumptions and calculations included in the technical analysis Effective written and verbal skills; able to communicate clearly at all levels of the organization Organization Ability to deliver tangible results while managing multiple concurrent but unrelated tasks Personality Ability and willingness to work respectfully and effectively with teammates from all backgrounds  Ability and willingness to continuously learn and grow professionally Exhibit resilience and tenacity needed to push seemingly intractable problems to resolution Physical Selected candidate may be required to support offline HRSG inspections.  Employee must be able to bend, reach crawl, stoop, and walk for extended periods.   Capable of climbing ladders on an as needed basis

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with combined-cycle power plant operations and maintenance practices Experience with Grafana, PowerBI, and Python Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Lean Process Management Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
