Job Details The Senior Pharmacist assists Pharmacy Management in the day-to-day Evening Pharmacy department operation. He/she is responsible for medication order verification, IV admixtures (if credentialed), drug information provision, controlled substance distribution, and oversight/checking of all pharmacy technician work. The Senior Pharmacist will also coordinate staff scheduling and assigning of tasks to staff based on Department requirements and staff skill set. Adheres to Mercy Hospital /department policies and procedures and JCAHO/regulatory agency requirements. Demonstrates and promotes service excellence at all times, with an emphasis on medication safety. Responsibilities: · Interprets medication orders; compounds, dispenses and monitors patient specific medication therapy, according to policies and procedures. · Interprets, prepares, and monitors orders for TPN, PPN and chemotherapy (prepares if credentialed). · Provides supervision over Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician work on evening shift. Troubleshoot and handle issues which arise on shift such as staffing, Pyxis hardware / software Supervise shift assignment completion and provide hand off to next shift Assist with USP 797 & 800 requirements and competencies by serving as a Designated Person Assists in the inventory and purchasing of pharmaceuticals and related department materials/equipment. Assists with schedule creation. · Provides drug information to all health care team members. Provides and documents clinical interventions when assigned and/or applicable. · Performs medication storage area inspections as assigned/required. · Participates in the preparation of performance improvement initiatives. Provides medication oversight for all age populations served by Hospital. · Distributes controlled drugs based on policy and procedure in line with NYS and Federal law. · Assists in preparing for all regulatory surveys. · Assists in development and revision of policies and procedures. · Practices within approved NYS Board of Pharmacy regulations, including maintenance of Pharmacist registration and licensure. Assists Pharmacy Administration with initiation and development of new pharmacy processes, programs, and services. Communicates with Pharmacy Management on any issues within/without department as needed. Has ability to handle hazardous substances when required, and able to use Pharmacy Department safety devices, procedures, and protocols when handling. Qualifications: B.S. Pharmacy or Pharm.D. (preferred) Minimum of three years of Hospital Pharmacy experience required. Current New York State Pharmacy License. Salary Range USD $68.00 - USD $89.00 /Hr. The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
