Sr Principal, Business Operations and Strategy

About this role:  

This position focuses on driving results to ensure the practice effectively deploys the company’s experts in the sales and customer service domains. In partnership with the Leadership Team, the Senior Principal of Business Operations and Strategy will enhance the strategic prioritization and operational effectiveness of the growing Sales and Customer Service Research Groups. Alongside the GVP of Sales and Customer Service and the Senior Director, BOS, the newly-formed position of Senior Principal, BOS will lead and execute a wide range of initiatives that drive higher client and Gartner value.  

 

What you will do: 

Fundamentally, the Senior Principal of Business Operations and Strategy is responsible for three categories of activities:  

Project and Change Management: Helping to ensure we run a focused operation at scale, leading projects to intended milestones on time. This includes managing practice and company-wide initiatives, working closely with Corporate HR, Data, Operations and Finance Partners to best execute and drive continuous improvement. 

Data Reporting and Analysis: Supporting the practice to meet its operational and strategic growth objectives by developing analysis of customer, financial, and operational metrics to identify strategic priorities and needed improvements 

Leadership Support: Supporting practice leadership to make and execute better decisions that drive client and Gartner value and ensuring that all personally owned or overseen projects and initiatives in the practice are completed on time and deliver anticipated business value. 

 

A successful candidate must be able to do the following: 

 

Budget and Financial Management 

Steward effective practice budget and run rate discipline and management, in partnership and collaboration with Finance and Recruiting (as evidenced by practice hitting financial targets for the year).  

Support practice leadership to regularly track productivity, capacity, open roles, run rate etc and consistently partnering with relevant stakeholders, performing necessary analysis and designing and implementing interventions.  

Build a model that can live with the practice that supports analysis around staffing.  

Manage all third-party data spend and contracts.  

 

Data Reporting and Analysis 

Partner with GVP to perform necessary analysis, framing, prioritization, work scoping, planning and project management.  

Build and track to a financial and performance metrics-based destination postcard for the year. Communicate performance updates regularly. Hold leaders to their plans to improve metrics.  

Deliver ongoing pan-practice reporting. This includes content reporting, financials, inquiry reporting, and reporting on individual performance.  

Work with other providers of insights into the practice to understand all other analysis coming into the product. Harmonize those insights with other work being done internally to make sure we’re getting a complete picture of insights around our business. 

Determine a method by which information is stored for reference, and communicated. Establish a knowledge base of metrics for the team. Assess what levels of information should be communicated, and through what channels.  

 

Leadership Support  

Increase practice leadership team productivity, transparency and accountability, including:  

Collaborating with teams inside and outside the practice (e.g., HR, Strategy, Operations, other BOSes) to ensure the collection, sharing, implementation, and adoption of relevant processes, frameworks, dashboards, and systems. 

Regularly and consistently engage in the BOS Community (e.g., respond to peer questions and requests and actively participate in team meetings) so that contributions to the community are visible and recognized by BOS peers. 

Help establish the operational calendar for the year  

Improve bandwidth and effectiveness of senior leadership and (where needed) partner with senior leadership’s direct reports on their strategic and tactical issues (e.g., role and product analysis, KI mapping, product launches, staffing modeling, new hire requisitions, agenda management, etc.) 

Work on, drive to complete complex “Central” requests that require input from leaders within the practice, consult with stakeholders outside of the group 

Contextualize change-related messages, decisions and actions for practice associates 

Build analysis, decks and support for practice-wide Town Hall and Management meetings. 

As a member of the leadership team, operate with utmost discretion. Maintain confidential information native to the operations and performance of individuals and the business.  

 

What you will need: 

The candidate must have demonstrated ability to: inspire a team to achieve great things; formulate and articulate a vision of the future; take concrete actions to achieve that vision; proven track record of strong management – of business, people, content, and client engagement; proven ability to execute, both with and without positional authority; deep knowledge of Gartner processes and strategy. 

Qualifications include: 

5-7+ years' experience working within business analyst, consulting, or general business management roles.  

Business and financial acumen 

Strong analytical and reporting capabilities, and data driven decision making. Experience in tracking to benchmarks and continuous improvement.  

Experience developing dashboards in PowerBI 

Proven capabilities in storytelling with data 

Highly collaborative and energized by connections with others and working within a team dynamic  

Experience with project and program management 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

High intercultural Awareness

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 84,000 USD - 115,920 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
