Sr Principal Controls & Automation Engineer
**_What Manufacturing Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health_** Engineering is responsible for performing research and analyses to develop design options for components, products, systems and processes. Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for developing manufacturing processes, production floor layouts and associated tools. Reviews new designs for manufacturability. Designs process improvements to reduce product cost, process cycle time and improved product quality. **_Job Summary_** The Senior Principal Engineer, Manufacturing leads major product design projects. This role is responsible for the coordination and management of resources to drive projects to completion. The projects managed are highly complex and will require the management of teams from 4-10 dedicated resources. The job has autonomy and complexity reflective of driving multiple projects. **_Responsibilities_** + Builds project plans, timelines and budgets for complex design changes to Class 1, 2, and 3 devices assigned to the job. + Leads internal resources for project feasibility testing and exploration stage of projects. + Directs validation testing from the necessary internal resources to ensure compliance and quality control. + Tracks project findings and details long-term impacts and evaluation and reports to relevant internal management teams. + Reaches out to internal resources to acquire the necessary resources and buy-in for assigned projects. + Provides general guidance to Principal engineers regarding less complex and impactful design changes. + Conducts in training activities and general team management. + Machine controls and power distribution design experience for entire fully automated production equipment. + Experienced on electrical design and schematic per IEC and NFPA standards. + Experience of machinery and process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, safety evaluation and safety circuit design. + Solid knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), HMIs, Servos, Robotics, Sensors, and Vision systems **_Qualifications_** + 8 -12 years of experience, preferred + Up to 25% travel, both domestic and international, required + Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred + Familiar with automation hardware/software of Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Fanuc, Universal Robot, Cognex, Keyence, SMC and other major automation brands, preferred + Minimum of 5 years of experience on PLC ladder logic, preferred 10+ years + Proficiency with Studio 5000, RSLogix 500, Insight Explorer, and AutoCAD, preferred **_What is expected of you and others at this level_** + Applies advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to manage a wide variety of projects + Participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals + Recommends new practices, processes, metrics, or models + Works on or may lead complex projects of large scope + Projects may have significant and long-term impact + Provides solutions which may set precedent + Independently determines method for completion of new projects + Receives guidance on overall project objectives + Acts as a mentor to less experienced colleagues **Anticipated salary range:** $100,000 - $130,000 annual salary **Bonus eligible:** Yes **Benefits:** Cardinal Health offers a wide variety of benefits and programs to support health and well-being. + Medical, dental and vision coverage + Paid time off plan + Health savings account (HSA) + 401k savings plan + Access to wages before pay day with myFlexPay + Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) + Short- and long-term disability coverage + Work-Life resources + Paid parental leave + Healthy lifestyle programs **Application window anticipated to close:** 3/24/25 *if interested in opportunity, please submit application as soon as possible.
