Sr. Principal IT Architect- Digital Thread

Reporting directly to the Director of Digital Thread, the Sr. Principal Architect will be responsible for enabling Raytheon Technology synergy targets by providing well-defined and compliant “Information Technology” solution architectures related to Digital Thread.  The candidate will be responsible for shaping IT solutions across an array of core enterprise level applications as well as business specific capabilities that may span our four businesses including Raytheon Missile Defense, Raytheon Intelligence and Space, Pratt & Whitney and Collins Aerospace.    

Overall Responsibility:

Viewed as a leader in the organization, this individual will provide enterprise-level architecture for Digital Thread including vision, strategy, problem anticipation, and problem solving for the Information Technology function.  They will help develop objectives, participate in establishing IT policy and help to set technology standards across multiple IT domains.  The individual anticipates IT industry directions as they relate to future architecture needs and project solutions.  The individual remains continuously aware of business, technical, applications, information management and access, and infrastructure issues and acts as a consultant to aid in the development of creative solutions.

This individual will be part of a team that is responsible for a segment of the overall Digital Thread initiative. This will require extensive subject matter expertise in related applications technologies (PLM, MES, ALM) and the ability to provide actionable guidance to the solutions architecture teams across the organization.  This will also require hands-on technical experience provisioning infrastructure, application and services to support the build out of a Digital Thread technology demonstrator platform.

The position requires strong communication skills as the individual will have direct engagement with senior functional leaders as well as internal partners and in some cases external consultants and standards bodies, such as PDES Inc, INCOSE, AIA.  The individual will need to have or develop a deep understanding of the company’s structure, business units, functional organizations and global business services. Experience working with Raytheon business units, functional organizations, and enterprise services is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the creation of integrated Digital Thread capability roadmaps and recommend functional strategies and operating plans to address customer needs and shifts in the aerospace and defense industry.Engage and influence Digital Technology leaders across the enterprise on establishment of portfolio baselines and prioritization of multiple initiatives driving Digital Thread capabilities and solutions. Mobilize Digital Technologies resources to rapidly deploy infrastructure, applications and services (AWS, Azure) and deliver technology demonstrator platforms in support of the Model-Based Digital Thread Process Capability Center and other priority Business Unit initiatives.Drive industrialization and business deployment of tools coming out of the Model-Based Digital Thread Process Capability Center.Support the definition of logical reference architectures, best practice, patterns, maturity models and roadmaps related to Digital ThreadDevelop/integrate a reference architecture and tool chain for model-based system engineering,  model-based product development process, virtual factory modeling and integration of design automation for improved DfMParticipate in the definition of technical capabilities to guide and collaborate with Technical Interest Groups (TIGs) and Communities of Practice (CoP) across RTX.Maintains visibility in the technical community related to Digital Thread through technical papers and seminar / conference participation both within and external to Raytheon.

Required Skills & Experience:  

12+ years of experience in information technology, systems architecture, systems design, and/or systems engineering.Strong interpersonal skills, ability to debate, negotiate, and influence and work with others in a collaborative and constructive mannerExperience improving the product lifecycle (concept through sustainment) by identifying and leading value-added enhancements to key value streamsExpert knowledge of infrastructure compute, storage, cyber, and network technologies and resourcesPrevious experience developing, delivering and supporting enterprise scale applications (PLM, MES, Engineering Technologies)Experience with managing digital technology heavy programs through understanding of Digital ecosystems and enabling technologyExperience provisioning infrastructure using IaC automation tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible and Terraform with a focus on high availability, data replication, and real-time recovery in failure situationsDemonstrates an understanding of the application of architecture frameworks and methods (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman, DoDAF); certifications a huge plusDemonstrated experience in developing and sustaining successful professional networks within a complex enterprise environmentExperience briefing at the executive/business leadership levelUS Citizenship is required

Education: 

Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum 12 years of experience, or an Advanced Degree and a minimum 10 years experience.
