The position entails looking at the applications and services holistically providing an integrated framework based on business rules. Daily tasks include leading multiple work streams across associated platforms creating applications and services serving specific Amtrak domains. The role requires solution designer to define the application design and delivery adhering to a Service Oriented Architecture so that different components work seamlessly.   The Sr. Principal Software Engineer – Solution Designer (IBM Maximo) works on major programs (Enterprise asset management & Asset condition monitoring system ecosystem) providing subject matter expertise and technical direction and is also responsible for systems analysis, systems landscape dependency mapping, design, development, integration, and enhancement. The role works closely with customers, business analysts and team members to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions.    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:  Leads development in technical design and implementation, ensuring the end results meet business requirements. Drives the development of services to be exposed as API's leveraging management platform. Leads the development work streams responsible for creating compliant platforms. Organizes and documents technical requirements, creates technical design specifications and assists in sizing technical requirements. Works with customers to develop and analyze application packages and tools and determine optimum functionality requirements to meet those needs.  Evaluates existing applications and platform and provides recommendations for system enhancements by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of modifications.  Implements integration plans and interfaces with testing teams to incorporate plans into integration testing process. Defines, develops or modifies software application modules or enterprise-wide software systems using disciplined development processes.  Identifies better sources of data feeds and interfaces with architects to ensure their feasibility with corporate data warehouse when needed. Act as technical solution designer for the Maximo Enterprise Asset Management system and adjoint IoT systems Work with Implementation vendor to drive innovative technical solutions to meet the client’s functional requirements within the available capabilities of the software Support the mandated tenant of zero customizations, cloud first, mobile first while maintaining Amtrak IT standards and vision Understands and enforces the efficient design and configuration of system security and access, including cloud and mobile solutions Help define the EAM vision based on system functionality and business needs, continuing to look for opportunities on ways to expand the portfolio Works on programs that may span a broad range of systems   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or business management – or equivalent work experience 9+ years of relevant technical experience in a leadership or a Subject Matter Expert capacity, preferably as EAM techno-functional lead/ solution designer role. Hands on, technical and functional experience with Maximo including designing, developing, and implementing high quality modifications, interfaces, conversions, and business process changes for Maximo systems IBM Certified Professional - Maximo Asset Management V7.6/MAS8/MAS 9 Configuring IIS, WebSphere, and Maximo Asset management suite, Spatial, Building Information Models (BIM), Anywhere Extensions, SAP Maximo integration technologies (Object structures, services, channels, etc.). BIRT, Actuate, Cognos and other proven Business Intelligence Reporting.   Maximo integration with other applications. Experience implementing the Maximo product in a transportation or Operational-heavy industry IBM Maximo Anywhere/Platform configuration, app development and deployment. EAM implementation expertise through various phases for complex implementations Extensive experience in design, development and operation of internet scale web applications leveraging IaaS / PaaS / SaaS delivery models. Experience in API Engineering for both REST and SOAP based services. Strong object-oriented programming skills preferably in Java / J2EE, Spring, Hibernate Must possess the ability to utilize adaptable communication skills to effectively translate between technical and business language. Must possess the skill to educate project team members on business unit goals and objectives and educate the business on the value of information technology. Must possess the skill to assess the client needs through direct interaction and identify opportunities to develop the business through effective use of technology. Modern programming language experience SQL, Java and/or C++. Experience with methodologies and technologies such as HTML, CSS, XML, and JavaScript, Oracle, RDBMS   PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   Proven experience implementing or configuring Maximo in the transportation industry or an operations-heavy company. Understanding of Linear asset management and configuration will be preferred. Experience in designing Internet of things driven asset management ecosystem will be preferred Experience on driving insights based on the data for the overall asset health & predictive maintenance will be preferred Experience in creating asset management technology upgrade roadmap and digital strategy will be a plus Experience with Data analytics tools, products and strategies is preferred. Proven experience integrating Maximo with enterprise digital ecosystem   WORK ENVRIORNMENT: Work is performed in an office environment.  May require travel up to 10%   COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:   Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.   The salary/hourly range is $149,400-$193,644. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
