General Description:
The Sr. Processing and Production Manager completes assigned duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Sr Processing Manager plans and directs work activities and resources for processing ESL pasteurized products in accordance with cost, quality specifications, and required quantities. The Sr. Processing and Production Manager functions as liaison with plant operations to achieve organizational effectiveness and operational excellence. The Sr. Processing and Production Manager directs ESL processing managers and production managers in accomplishing specified tasks and oversees training of processing personnel aligned with plant protocols. The Sr. Processing and Production Manager completes these functions in support of manufacturing various dairy-related products.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for achieving assigned people, safety, quality, service, and finance goals. Responsible for overall operation of ESL processing and production. Manages processing plans to ensure yield and efficiency requirements are met. Align processing and production to maximize uptime and sanitation opportunities. Communicates with production, logistics, and distribution supervision of any changes and/or corrections to production plan in a timely fashion and verifies with proper follow up. Coordinates with the Processing Manager to maintain optimal processing throughput and performance. Coordinates Continuous Improvement efforts within the department. Leads meetings and publishes reports on processing performance, on-time delivery, capacity utilization and other major factors that affect facility throughput. Coordinates cross-functional activities to reconcile significant variances. Prepares and maintains relevant reports and SOPs pertaining to ESL processing and production. Consistently develops new ideas and methods to improve operational performance and improve product quality and customer reliability. Manages the development of Preventative and Predictive Maintenance tasks for processing equipment and monitors completion rates. Ensures processing managers conduct root cause analysis on equipment breakdowns and processing interruptions. Implements permanent corrective actions with the Maintenance department. Consistently uses root cause analysis tools to increase uptime and output. Partners with Byrne engineering and equipment suppliers to optimize machine productivity. Ensuring expenses, both labor and non-labor, are maintained within reasonable and budgeted thresholds. Formulates and implements expenditure thresholds with leadership. Ensures sustained development and implementation of Standardized Work Instructions (SWIs) for the Processing Departments. Responsible for department’s compliance with GMPs, SOPs, corporation, and plant safety policies, rules, and regulations. Responsible for reporting food safety problems and supporting SQF compliance by maintaining food safety and food quality. Supports all areas in the production facility as assigned by plant management. Finalizes all employment transactions and makes recommendations in concert with HR, to include interviewing and selection process of direct reports; responsible for timely and effective selection of employees; timely and engaging performance evaluations; appropriate corrective actions; timely ascension through job family; appropriate separations as pre-approved by HR. Manage all phases of the developmental plans of direct reports. Provides feedback and directions to each functional area. Ensures processes are in place to continually provide training to improve the skills of the processing management staff and improve the skill set of the non-exempt production associates to maximize the results of individual and team efforts. Reviews performance of direct reports and completes required appraisals to incorporate company goals and objectives. Perform weekly informal visits with employees to ensure their needs are being addressed, to build trust and relationships, to recognize employee successes and contributions, to promote a respectable work environment. Ensures that all tasks and functions of position are always performed in a safe manner and that all procedures and requirements are properly followed to accomplish assigned tasks. Take corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe work environment. Responsible for food safety and quality as well as reporting food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action. Monitors and ensure compliance with all OSHA, NYSA&M, FDA, SQF and EEOC requirements. Ensures work areas are sanitary and strictly adheres to sanitation practices. Communicates effectively between shifts and other departments. Responsible for ensuring direct reports assigned duties and responsibilities are covered during planned and unplanned absence from work, including acting as a backup as necessary.Essential Knowledge, Skills:

Ability to operate facility equipment as required in assigned area. Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements. Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information. Must be able to use the Human Interface Machines and computers (stop and startup). Knowledge and proficiency in computer functions such as Microsoft Office programs, spreadsheets, etc. Skill to actively seek out and identify improvement opportunities. Ability to trust, develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with others inside or outside the organization. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage details, and coordinate activities simultaneously. Knowledge of applicable PMO and internal operating guidelines for quality. Knowledge of OSHA, SQF, and other regulatory entity protocols and regulations. The ability to implement and support change management needed to improve organizational effectiveness. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written to all levels in and outside the company. Ability to apply critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Ability to understand and explain product flow through VTIS and UHT systems using PI&D diagrams. Possess good business acumen regarding production trends as related to the dairy industry. Process high volumes of data in a fast-paced environment, both in and out of the office.Education/Experience:
Minimum GED or High School Diploma is required, associate or bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience managing dairy processing operations. Experience in analytical statistical methods, manufacturing processes, and supply chain flows.Performance Standards:
Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the Plant Manager prior to the occurrence. Responsible for reporting to work on a condition to work. Responsible for being well-groomed and always dressed in business-and position-appropriate attire including ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards. Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures and responsibilities as described in the company handbook. Always maintain a safe work environment and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct safety concerns. Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned.Work Schedule:
Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on assigned shift. Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by Supervisor/Manager. Salaried: Generally scheduled for 40 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.Environmental Concerns:
Normally protected from weather and temperature changes, possible exposure to hot cold wet, humid, or windy weather conditions does exist. May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens. May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.Physical Job Requirements:
The ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building. Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions. Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break. Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and moving objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations. Cortland, NYThe wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $125,000 to $152,500.
