Sr Project Controls Analyst - IT

Primary Purpose Develop and monitor the annual budgets, actual and forecasted costs, and Long-Range Plans for Information Technology (IT) projects and programs. Provide project controls support to Directors, Project Managers, contractors, and other key team members including preparing cost estimates for per each phase of the project estimate (phase 1, 2 and 3) and for continuous refinement of expected project costs during authorization and Long-Range Planning process. Utilize multiple existing Exelon systems to support current and future work with respect to budgeting, financial forecasting, actual cost tracking, project authorization, work management, contracts, and material tracking. Provide broad analytical and operational support to the business unit. Prepare comprehensive reports to support project portfolio including reauthorization risk, forecast accuracy, contingency released and remaining, and others as requested. Schedule and run monthly project financial status calls. Track and manage In-Service Dates and closings, and Project Aging PIs. Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Must sit within our service areas in DC, Chicago/Oak Brook Terrace, Philly, Newark - DE or Baltimore. No relocation is available. Primary Duties Utilize Excel or other equivalent applications to conduct modeling, forecasting, trending, variance analysis, and other forecast-related financial and implementation analysis. Track, maintain, analyze, and provide current forecasting information on scorecard or key performance indicators (KPIs). Maintain resource-loaded schedules. Manage project and program financial risks and opportunities and provide detailed analysis of variances to budget, quarterly plan, and month over month variance analysis. Support project management at resulting financial challenge meetings. (40%) Support and contribute to the development of Waterfall (Phase 1, 2, and 3), Agile, or Hybrid project cost estimates in required format with all required assumptions that support development of current and LRP budgets. Prepare authorization documentation as required by IT Strategy, Planning and Governance. Collaborate with respective accounting groups to confirm treatment of costs align to type of spend (including cloud capital) and utility allocation. This position has a direct impact on the Company's performance regarding capital spend. (25%) Develop and maintain regular interaction with Project Managers, Project Directors, outside contractors, and general IT and finance staff. Work with Project Managers to ensure that estimates and forecasts are properly understood, challenged, and reviewed. Provide direction to Project teams on ways to mitigate costs and hold Project Teams accountable to proper accounting practices. Provide direction to Project Teams on ways to reduce costs. Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate meetings, problem solve and drive to resolution. Ability to handle conflict. Interfaces as required with category owners, resource management and financial management. (25%) Provide coordination, support and deliverables related to emergent initiatives and special assignments with focus on sharing of business process expertise, continuous improvement and organizational effectiveness. (10%) Job Scope This is an individual contributor position that works under general supervision and frequently performs non-routine work. This position is expected to resolve most questions and problems through interaction with internal and/or external stakeholders, executives, directors, managers, and staff across the organization, and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels. The position regularly mentors less experienced colleagues. May require working extended hours and/or shift work to support business operations. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related field (Business, IT, Finance, Accounting, etc.) and 4-7 years relevant experience (IT Projects and/or Project Controls/ Accounting) or in lieu of Bachelor's degree, 7+ years relevant experience is required. Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and strong understanding of applicable standards, methods, processes and practices, business fundamentals, and performance metrics applicable to IT Projects. General proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI), specialized business technologies and applications (e.g., ServiceNow, Asset Suite 8, PFOT) to retrieve and analyze data in support of business needs. Expert understanding and ability in Excel. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance. Strong judgment; excellent analytical ability and consulting skills. Ability to facilitate project meetings with all stakeholders in remote or in office environment and effectively interface with all levels of management; Ability to communicate effectively when explaining advanced financial concepts. Customer driven with excellent oral and written communications skills and general analytical, problem solving and project management skills. Ability to analyze organizational data and problems, interpret and recommend alternative courses of action, and implement intervention strategies to attain performance targets. Skilled in organizational, problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Finance/ Accounting.
