Overview This senior level position works independently and is responsible for coordinating, inspecting, and managing all phases of large-scale contract work performed on the LGE/KU transmission and distribution system, including supervision and oversight of work contractors. This work is focused on capital construction, failure replacements and maintenance. This position may be located at the South Service Center in Louisville, KY or KU General Office in Lexington, KY Responsibilities Observe contract work in progress, checking safety, productivity, quality, progress, and paperwork. Independently manages large scale, highly visible, statewide projects including 345kv and above. Provide technical direction, training, and direct oversight to less experienced protection and control coordinators. Oversee and provide real-time technical direction for multiple projects and multiple contractor crews statewide. Approve and process contractor time and equipment sheets and coordinate work for contractors. Maintain control of all company materials used by contractors. Responsible for providing complete information for completing project in Oracle, providing information for checking and processing contractor and material invoices, providing proper build information to update system maps and office prints and records. Ensure quality control on capital work related to substation protection and control systems, including the installation, testing, and commissioning of protective relays, RTUs, and control circuits. Verify that all work is performed accurately and adheres to company guidelines, industry standards, and safety protocols. Set up line requests, schedule outages, and oversee switching operations through system operations center. Work with customers to arrange outages and obtain property owners permission for working on property. Communicate with property owners in settling damage claims. Coordinate contractors’ work during emergency work or storms. Know and understand Safety rules and practices for substation construction. All other duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications Associate's Degree in a discipline related to Substation Protection and Control, or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis is required. 5+ years years Substation Protection and Control experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis is required (i.e., must have 7 years of experience if only a high school education). Requires a thorough knowledge of substation construction operations practices, safety rules and procedures, construction equipment and tools and above-average interpersonal relations skills. Requires effective communication, planning, organizing and analytical skills and competent computer knowledge. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of substation protection systems, including experience with protective relays, remote terminal units (RTUs), and various control circuits.
