The Role and Opportunity

The Core Buyer Engineering org builds features that cater to specific experiences such as Browse, Deals & Events, Interests, Notifications, Motors, Electronic Gifting, Warranties and much more across all platforms. We work very closely with the Product Management, Quality Engineering, Design and Business Partners to build business solutions that are used by millions of eBay users across the globe every day. We are responsible for businesses that represent billions of dollars worth of goods and services sold on eBay.

Our team's mission is to deliver best-in-class E2E buyer experience. We innovate in item discovery and buyer engagement by developing AI-driven upper-funnel shopping experiences. Additionally, we enhance buyer trust in the Fashion Categories by building and expanding the Authenticity Guarantee experience. This role will play a crucial part in advancing our roadmap and achieving our mission.

The team works on technologies such as Java, REST, GraphQL services and database solutions (Mongo, Oracle, Cassandra, Elastic, etc.). Like everything else at eBay, we build scalable and highly-available systems for the millions of users that depend on us to conduct their businesses.

Primary Job Responsibilities

As a Sr Software Engineer, this person will be hands-on with product development, building high quality software with scalability and reliability working closely with business partners, product managers, system architects and designers.

Develop features and services in highly scalable and reliable backend systems in a distributed system environment.Write clean, high-quality, well-tested and maintainable code.Develop and maintain technical documentation to support software applications.Practices evidence-centered design making code testable, ensuring high quality and improving velocity in continuous delivery.Own multiple subsystems within a larger domain, taking full responsibility for their entire life cycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.Propose and evaluate multiple design options, providing estimates for each.Structure and complete tasks independently, meeting deadlines and achievements.Effectively communicate assumptions and seek clarification from partners, ensuring alignment and understanding across all domains.

Job Requirements

BS/BA in Computer Science or related field plus 4+ years work experience or MS with 3+ years of relevant experienceExperienced in Java, GraphQL, Spring/Springboot, REST APIs, messaging systems.Strong CS foundation (data structures, algorithms, OOPs, OOA/D) Building data-driven applications (RDBMS, NoSQL, ElasticSearch) Designs and builds scalable, distributed, available back-end systems Experience designing and developing microservices Delivers results in fast-paced environments (agile, TDD, CI/CD) Innovative, team player, excellent communication and decision-making Excited about new and innovative technologies within immediate field of expertise
