As a Senior Software Engineer on the CBS Video Engineering team you will design, develop, and maintain software to orchestrate video delivery. You will partner with engineers, product managers, and project managers to deliver new features and support streaming video for CBS News, Sports, and Entertainment. You’ll work closely with our product teams and other engineering groups throughout the company to ensure we’re fitting the best technology to the needs of the business. Additionally, you will work with operations to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues and identify chances to create and implement solutions.
Your Day-to-Day:
You will take part in all regular meetings including standups, backlog, and planning
Be a subject matter expert on video helping to train each individual contributor
Hands-on designing, implementing and reviewing code
Implement large scale video workflows to meet the needs of the business
Work with other teams to implement product initiatives related to video delivery
Lead team initiatives and feature design meetings
Identify and outline tickets for new features and tech debt
Facilitate knowledge sharing with team members
Monitor operations to troubleshoot streaming issues and identify solutions
Qualifications:
You have –
7+ years of experience in streaming video
9+ years of experience designing and implementing maintainable, pragmatic software solutions
5+ years of experience with streaming protocols HLS and MPEG-DASH
5+ years of experience with Live and VOD video workflows
5+ years of experience configuring encoders and packagers
5+ years of experience with SCTE and Server-Side Ad Stitching
5+ years of experience with Cloud Technologies particularly AWS and GCP
5+ years of working with Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, NextJS
You might also have –
Strong communication with proven ability to work well within and across teams
Understanding of DRM - FairPlay, Widevine, or PlayReady
Proficient with technical writing and design documentation
Kubernetes
Understanding of various multimedia transport protocols such as: RTP, RTMP, SRT, UDP, Zixi
Experience with AVC, HEVC, VP9, AV1, AAC video and audio codec standards
Experience with AWS Media Services
Knowledge of video players
GitHub and GitHub Actions
