Sr Software Engineer (Operations)
Job Description An employer is looking for Software Engineer to join their Enterprise SRE Team. Currently, SRE is dispersed around the company in various development teams, so this teams charter is to help create standards across SRE, pull data, define metrics, identify trends, and chase big enterprise problems within SRE. Part of the team is responsible for researching policies/standards, defining them, and then once theyre executed, there will be tickets put in development teams backlog who are in violation. The goal is to be proactive during development versus reactive in production. The team is working on defining SLAs, SLOs, air budgets, and standardizing CI/CD pipelines for the entire IT organization. This role will be responsible for working heavily within GitLab, manipulating data, and building dashboards. The teams main initiatives are currently working on SLAs, Air Budgets, and standardizing CI/CD. They are pulling data to see how well production systems are tuned. The goal is to build advanced reporting systems and tools to monitor and predict systems performance and identity opportunities for automation and standardization. We are looking for a Software Engineer that is well versed in problem solving, has a passion for improvement and innovation through automation with an operational mindset. An example of this initiatives the team works on: Kubernetes example: when you deploy an application in production you can set parameters to see how much memory and CPU is running and the limits. If you expand beyond the limit Kubernetes will kill things. The team found out that things were being killed all the time. Developers need to know how this works and how to look for it. They need someone who can help find this data and represent it to the development community. This team is building dashboards to monitor this, and doing outreach to discuss the performance impact. Skills and Requirements 7+ years of experience in software development with Java Experience and interest in operations Strong experience with Kubernetes Strong experience with GitLab Experience with Grafana, Splunk, AppDynamics, etc. Experience with Java Garbage Collection, Java Virtual Environment.
