NBC Universal has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to become a Sr Systems Engineer within the Operations & Technology (O&T) organization, with a specific focus on NBCU Broadcast infrastructure. O&T supports enterprise Technology, Broadcast, and Production systems across the NBCU portfolio globally.
The Sr Systems Engineer will partner with NBCU Technology leadership on day-to-day operations, including VM deployment, OS access tickets, OS/VM troubleshooting, ESXi configuration, SOX auditing, and performance troubleshooting. Working within an agile framework, updating tickets in Jira/SNOW, and collaborating with cross-functional business leaders and partners, to provide “best in class” support for our NBCU local stations and global enterprise customers.
Responsibilities:
+ Develop & maintain engagements with Infrastructure Engineering, MSP resources, facility support, vendors, and Application teams to provide end-to-end delivery and support of appropriate infrastructure solutions.
+ Provide level 2/3 operational support for ticket completion, incident management, problem management resolution, and On-Call activities.
+ Demonstrate a dedication to building and maintaining a stable, high-performance technical environment.
+ Partner with Business & client teams in building/articulating technical requirements and recommendations.
+ Strong customer service skills and unfailing professionalism
+ Partner closely and collaborate enthusiastically with both clients at the local facilities and peers across O&T
+ Track timelines, manage priorities and schedules, and set client expectations.
+ Partner with the Business Engagement team to capture technical requirements, provide solutions, and ensure resources are available to hit required timelines.
+ Collaborate closely with the NBCU cyber security team to build repeatable systems with security best practices and hardening.
+ Preferred familiarity with PCI and SOX procedures and controls
+ Build out enterprise-wide monitoring systems with automated alerting and dashboarding interfaces for easy troubleshooting.
Basic Requirements:
+ Experience with management, building, and troubleshooting virtualization/OS technologies, specifically VMware, CentOS, RHEL, Oracle, and Ubuntu
+ Strong understanding of Linux kernel tuning and operating system semantics
+ High Availability, clustering, failover, and load balancing experience.
+ System performance analysis, tuning, and troubleshooting, including network, system, and hardware optimization.
+ Proficiency in troubleshooting tools such as strace, dtrace, tcpdump, and perf
+ Technical expertise and experience with hardware vendors, preferably Cisco, Dell, or HP
+ Familiar with general data center facility wiring/fiber/connectivity requirements.
+ In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, routing, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, and network topology
+ Enterprise compute processes and technology standards development experience
+ Automation of operational tasks to improve reliability and enforce standards using tools like Puppet, Chef, and Terraform
+ Scripting experience (e.g., Python, Ansible, Shell, PowerShell, Git, Tower) and CI/CD methodologies
+ Familiarity with agile methodologies, working in Jira-based sprint structures.
+ Experience managing and troubleshooting Linux filesystems (XFS, EXT4, ZFS, NFS) and logical volume management (LVM)
+ Expertise in containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
+ Experience with Linux-based security solutions, including SELinux, AppArmor, and vulnerability scanning tools.
+ System hardening and compliance experience, including DISA STIGs or CIS benchmarks.
+ Familiarity with RAID configuration and troubleshooting, as well as SAN and NAS storage solutions
+ Proficient in managing LDAP, Kerberos, and centralized authentication solutions.
+ Monitoring using tools like Splunk, ELK stack, or Prometheus/Grafana
+ Experience with backup and disaster recovery strategies for Linux systems.
+ Ability to troubleshoot and optimize Linux boot processes and GRUB configurations.
+ Background in managing virtualized environments and working with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP
+ Must be willing to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays with little or/no notice.
Desired Characteristics:
+ 1+ years of recent experience with Cloud-based technologies.
+ 1+ years of experience with scripting
+ B.S. degree in an Information Technology-related technical discipline or 5+ equivalent practical experience required.
+ Familiar with Block/File/Object storage technologies
+ Familiarity with backup technologies, recovery scenarios, high-availability designs and solutions
+ Familiar with ServiceNow or other ITSM-related toolsets

+ Hybrid: This position has been designated as a hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
