Sr. Accountant
Overview BigBear.ai is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant will play a critical role as a key contributor to various accounting functions at BigBear.ai. This position requires a meticulous accounting professional who can ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, support financial reporting, and collaborate closely with the accounting team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in accounting specifically in the government contracting industry, strong analytical skills, and a passion for leveraging technology and improving processes to drive efficiency and effectiveness. This role can be performed fully remotely. What you will do Accounting Operations / Reporting: Assist in the monthly close process, including preparing workpapers and reconciliations. Review contract billing terms and apply those requirements to Federal customer billings. Manage the invoicing process for Federal customers to include reviewing all invoice batches prior to posting and disbursement. Record monthly journal entries ensuring accuracy and appropriate documentation and approvals. Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and variance analysis. Support quarterly SEC reporting by maintaining footnote support schedules. Accounting Systems: Collaborate with stakeholders to manage data governance, reporting structures, and data tagging. Identify opportunities for system improvements and implement new functionalities. Perform recurring data integrity checks with the systems administration team to ensure effective data governance. Policy and Compliance: Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Collaborate with the internal audit team to ensure SOX compliance and documentation. Support DCAA-related compliance, including ad-hoc audits and Incurred Cost Submissions. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to support financial decision-making and provide financial insights. Participate in special projects as needed to support the company's strategic objectives. Collaborate with Unanet Systems Admin to test and implement process and reporting improvement initiatives. What you need to have Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA certification preferred. Proven experience (3 – 5 years) in accounting. Experience reviewing contract terms and invoicing US Government contracts Thorough knowledge of GAAP financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements. Experience with ERP systems and other accounting and reporting software. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Advanced MS office skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc) Ability to manage competing priorities and work well under pressure. Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills. What we'd like you to have Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and recommendations. Experience with Unanet, FloQast, and/or Workiva. Experience with services revenue recognition and SaaS/subscription-based revenue models.
