Sr. Accountant
Description We are seeking a Senior Accountant for our construction and contracting firm based in Houston, Texas. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for performing accounting functions for our operating communities, including preparing financial statements, processing general ledger accounting entries, and managing monthly reporting. This role requires a high level of accuracy, detail orientation, and strong analytical skills. Responsibilities: • Establish direct contact with the Executive Directors, operations staff, management and joint venture partners to ensure accurate and timely communication of financial information and results. • Oversee the general ledger for multiple operating communities, including journal entry preparation, monthly review and closing. • Prepare and distribute the monthly financial statements and other management reports for each operating community. • Handle monthly reporting to joint venture partners, including the preparation of cash flow distributions. • Review accounts payable invoices for each operating community. • Conduct intercompany reconciliations and settle amounts monthly. • Complete monthly and quarterly account reconciliations on a timely basis. • Prepare various entries for all communities, as assigned. • Assist with internal (SOX) and external audits. • Perform other accounting duties as needed for cross-training of tasks. Requirements • Possession of a minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role, preferably within the construction or contractor industry • Demonstrated ability in preparing and analyzing financial statements • Proficiency in intercompany accounting and joint ventures • Familiarity with month-end close procedures and maintaining general ledgers • Ability to perform account reconciliations accurately and efficiently • Proven experience with Sage Timberline accounting software • Comprehensive knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is preferred • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal • Ability to work independently and within a team environment • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel • Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) would be an asset.
