Job Summary (Purpose):  

 

This position will support the Company’s “record to report” process for general ledger and financial reporting, along with preparation of related filings with regulatory agencies for both UGI Utilities and UGI Energy Services.  This role will also be an integral part of the team that supports our base rate case filings, and will also act as a subject matter expert on  the software application which converts transactions from GAAP accounting and reporting to FERC accounting and reporting.

 


Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Monthly Close and Related Processes:

Accountant responsible for variance analysis, financial statement reporting, journal entries, account reconciliations related to General Ledger and Regulatory Accounting.  Calculate various overhead rates and allocations, ensuring that calculations are appropriate in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Record payroll entries and lead the cash reconciliation and miscellaneous A/R processes. Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and financial forecasts. Ensure adherence to internal controls and procedures, and document execution of SOX key controls. Coordinate with external auditors, prepare audit schedules, and respond to audit inquiries. Support reconciliation of financial statement tie-out and reporting.

 

Regulatory Accounting and Filings for UGI Utilities and UGI Energy Services:

Support the preparation and filing of the FERC Form 1, the PUC Annual Report, and other regulatory reports as assigned, working with operational and accounting personnel to ensure that information is reported accurately, timely and completely.   FERC Account Recording - Serve as subject matter expert for FERC ledger mapping, and the conversion of base financial information into FERC format. Prepare Regulatory and Plant Accounting schedules and analysis to support base rate case filings.  Respond to  inquiries from Legal, Rates and intervenors.

 

Process / System Improvement and Project Management:

Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to design, build, improve, and automate processes related to both internal reporting in the department’s data analytics/reporting software and regulatory reporting in Workiva. Lead special projects as assigned by management, primarily in the areas of General Ledger and Regulatory. Perform other duties as requested. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to senior management. Comfort in proactively coordinating and communicating verbally and through email with various internal and external parties, including senior management and legal, related to areas of responsibility. Experience in a regulated accounting environment preferred. Understanding of accounting principles associated with plant accounting, including regulatory accounting principles. Ability to independently research and resolve issues, presenting potential solutions to management. Strong Excel skills Strong attention to detail skills. Experience with ERP system such as SAP preferred.

 


Education and Experience Required:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field 5+ years experience in Accounting None required; CPA or working toward CPA is a plus
