Over the past 2 years, the Innovation and Automation group has led or assisted with factory and robotic automation projects at multiple facilities and had remarkable success. We’ve deployed dozens of new automation systems and pieces of factory equipment. We’re now scaling our team, process, and reach to execute or assist with dozens of projects per year.

This role will involve 40-70% travel. Have your home base at our Chicago or Houston innovation hubs, one of our many manufacturing facilities, or work remote during non-travel periods.

What You’ll Do:

Lead 3-4 simultaneous projectsAct as individual contributor on 1-3 projects; mentor and guide Jr. engineers on 1-3 additional projectsMentor and guide others as required. Leadership opportunities available if desiredLeverage Jr engineers for technical problem solving as neededUse your skills in process and LEAN to build project scopes which use automation technology to improve factory process flow and optimize ROI or other KPI’sMap existing factory processes, educate businesses on bottlenecks, propose and implement future states which align with business growth and investment goalsOwn responsibility for technical project leadership. Use prior engineering knowledge or gain new knowledge to be the project technical expertUse engineering knowledge and subject matter experts to architect automation solutionsSpearhead technology research to deliver state-of-the-art processes and designsWork across multiple facilities with separate stakeholder teams and processesWork with project managers to set and manage goals, deliverables, and timelinesBuild payback models and assist in writing capital requestsUse existing Marmon automation implementation process to guide your workflowUpdate and improve Marmon processes as you learn. Contribute to shared knowledge baseAttend trade shows, vendor visits, etc., to become a rounded industry expert on current state of the art technologies and implementation strategiesTeach and mentor businesses to continue executing projects

What You’ll Bring to the Role:

Preferred degree areas: Mechanical engineering, Industrial engineering, Automation engineering, and Project management / Operations5-15+ years’ work experience in Operations, Process engineering, LEAN, Automation, and similarComfortable in ambiguous situations where requirements may be unclearComfortable setting your own agenda to accomplish goals when neededComfortable in factory environmentsAbility to work independently and in a team environmentKnowledge of LEAN principles40-70% travel, domesticStrong organizational skillsMUST be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
