This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.
This Sr. Biomedical Engineer will independently conceive, execute and communicate novel multi-disciplinary research or development strategies that achieve project and area goals. This individual will generate new scientific proposals and lead those efforts. Anticipate and critically evaluate scientific or regulatory advances. They will also serve as a lead scientist on his/her own project and contribute scientific insights into multiple other projects. The ideal candidate will consistently demonstrate excellent record of accomplishment of scientific and business objectives.
What you’ll work on
Plans and executes laboratory research. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.Initiates, directs and executes scientific research and/or development strategies in research and/or development. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems.Develop productive collaborations and communication with other groups, across scientific disciplines, and with scientists outside of Abbott. Expertise in field is sought within the company and possibly externally.Interact with suppliers to resolve scientific and technical challenges.Assume a high level of responsibility in setting and achieving team goals. Independently identify and communicate issues and opportunities. Guide formation of research and development strategy and tactics.Plans resource allocation and distribution. Holds teams accountable for meeting milestones.Recognizes the need for new or additional resources and escalates to leadership as needed.May act as spokesperson on corporate research and development and advise top management.May participate in development of patent applications.Interfaces with various departments and serves as internal consultant.Participates in Lab Safety, and may lead or recommend new procedures.Keep accurate and current records of research and/or project activities according to Abbott policies.Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.May be responsible to hire and manage up to 4 junior to mid-level scientists.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with 10 years of experience in research in industrial or academic setting or Doctorate’s Degree with 4 years of industry experience.Familiar with standard laboratory techniquesAble to present orally and in writing at a professional level.Able to perform proficiently under applicable regulatory requirements.Highly effective writer and oral communicator of research, technical and regulatory issues. Presents original work at internal and external meetings.Competent in authorship of peer reviewed scientific papers and/or patents.Advanced computer skills, is proactive to learn new systems and processes.Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines. Familiar with CAD tools.Experience with industrial control systems, specifying, configuring and troubleshooting controllers (particularly Aerotech) and electrical systems.Experience programming PLCs and Visual Studio.NET.Experience with industrial laser systems, particularly scan head-based systems, laser system bring-up and troubleshooting, beam alignment, cut job parameter development and laser safety best practices.What We Offer

The base pay for this position is $125,700.00 – $251,500.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
