We are looking for a Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer who will partner with teams across Kindle Content & Physical Books to disrupt societal inequities, delight marginalized customers, and advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
In this role you will collaborate with cross functional partners to identify practices and contributing factors that may unintentionally perpetuate societal inequities for readers, authors, and publishers. We are looking for an analytical, results-oriented, self-motivated, and customer-focused Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer to build critical data pipelines and analytics tools that will help us transform the way we engage with readers and help them find their next book. The candidate will work hand in hand with scientists and product managers to create measurement methodology and KPIs for Books DEI initiatives and other books projects and formulate data-driven hypotheses on future initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have excellent statistical and analytical abilities, outstanding business acumen and judgment, intense curiosity, and strong technical skills. They are a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big and be creative (while paying careful attention to detail), and enjoys working in a fast-paced dynamic environment. To be successful in this role, you should have broad skills in database design, be comfortable dealing with large and complex data sets, have experience building self-service dashboards and using visualization tools, while always applying analytical rigor to solve business problems.


Key job responsibilities
• Write high quality optimized SQL to retrieve and analyze data from relational databases (ex. Redshift, MySQL, S3)
• Identify technical solutions to solve the business problem including evaluation of platform/dashboard required, technical solution review, data design approach review, validation, code review, UAT testing and launch in line with best practices
• Work closely with Data Engineers and business users to design and build ETL’s for clean and scalable data sources required for analytics and reporting
•Lead complex data analysis projects to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization
· Drive seamless data/reporting and insights to enable data backed decision making, and drive leadership clarity around business metrics by enabling MBRs/QBRs/Pillar reviews/OP1 discussions.
·Design, develop, and maintain real-time metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, with full audit capabilities to support key business decisions for Books initiatives
· Mentor and guide junior team members in data analysis and process improvement methodologies
· Assist in the development and execution of strategic initiatives and analytical roadmaps

A day in the life
The day in the life of a BIE would involve managing multiple BI projects in a particular/multiple domains for Amazon Books, with a particular focus on disrupting societal biases across various stages of different projects. Day-to-day activities to include meetings across stakeholders on understanding business requirements, connecting with SDE’s/ BIEs/ DE’s to identify source data tables, brainstorming with Tech team on potential technical solutions/actions, data design review with BIEs, sprint prioritization reviews, code review with fellow BIEs and driving insights and documentation.
