Job DescriptionGDIT is seeking a Sr. Cloud Solutions Engineer (AWS) to support our National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) team in Rockville, MD.
As a Sr. Could Developer, you will work closely with other innovative and savvy people to engineer custom solutions in the Cloud. You will collaborate regularly with product owners to deploy custom line-of-business, scientific, and high performance computing (HPC) applications. In this role, you will also help streamline our users operations and processes, and further the adoption of DevOps best practices. Candidates with a focus on innovation and automating best practices is a plus.
This role is remote but within commuting distance to Rockville, MD is preferred.
HOW A SENIOR CLOUD SOLUTIONS ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Collaborate with product owners (researchers and software developers) to identify and design topologies for custom business and scientific applications on AWS as part of our custom platformProvide guidance for adhering to best practices for optimal and secure use of cloud technologiesAssist development teams in migrating their products from on-prem infrastructure to AWS, which often requires refactoring application architecture and breaking down monolithic applications into micro-service architecture or serverless workloadsTrain product teams in AWS cloud technologies and frameworks to assist them in setting up the environment, build and deploy applications, and automate operational needsWork with other Cloud Solutions Engineers or independently to develop prototypes and enhance or expand fundamental capabilities offered on the platform, such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and containerized, serverless workloads, and high performance computing.Participate in a daily stand-up meeting to report your accomplishments, plans for the day, and any roadblocks you encountered. Your team will do the same, giving you an opportunity to understand and contribute to other ongoing initiatives.Act as an AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert (SME) on cross functional teams to help further the organizations mission.Occasionally present to your team, our software developer colleagues, and researchers on DevOps best practices, new and interesting cloud technologies, and ways you approached and solved challenging technical issues during our Tech Talks webinar series.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Required Experience:
Technical training, certifications, and/or degree and 8+ years of related experience required3+ years of experience with AWS, to include knowledge of commonly used AWS services, such as: ECS, EC2, S3, SageMaker, Systems Manager, LambdaWorking knowledge of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) frameworks, such as Terraform or CloudFormation to include writing templates and modules from scratch and experience with configuration management frameworksKnowledge of Docker and hands-on experience in containerizing software applications; experience working with container orchestration and deployment platforms such as AWS ECS and AWS EKSExperience with implementing and managing Ci/CD workflows using GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild, or similar toolsExperience with configuration management through AWS Systems Manager, Ansible, Puppet, or similar toolsExperience analyzing solutions components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps in current components that must be resolved to reach future performance targets and functionality requirements in cloud infrastructureExperience with presenting ideas to both technical and non-technical usersAbility to write comprehensive technical documentationMust be able to obtain a NIH Public Trust clearancePreferred Skills:
