Primary duties for the Combustion Devices engineer would include: + Gather data and assemble for assessment of changes and issues with hardware and test data. + Collaborate with other engineers to resolve technical issues. + Document and deliver results with recommendations. + Utilize analysis and test/flight data to characterize the component environments and assist in determining if the combustion devices and turbomachinery meet established design requirements and design goals. + Apply analyses to pre- and post-test predictions of component performance and to assessing ground test/flight data. + Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of liquid propulsion components related to combustion devices. + Assist in assessing new design concepts, design improvements, and fabrication methods. + Attend technical interchanges, project planning, design review, review boards, and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and provide supporting analyses. Complete and document assigned action items. Review requirements and risk management processes. + Perform other duties related to liquid rocket engine analyses and systems engineering as assigned. + Present assessments to other engineers, as well as technical, project, and program management. **Qualifications** + BS plus 10 years of experience, or MS plus 7 years of experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering field from an ABET-accredited university. + Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, propulsion, and heat transfer. + Proficient with combustion codes and applications. + Familiar with fabrication and manufacturing operations. + Proficient using Microsoft Office Products. + Excellent presentation skills. + Excellent organizational skills and time management. + Able to work in a team environment. + Must be able to provide own transportation. **Essential Functions** **Work Environment:** Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%) **Physical Requirements:** Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%). **Equipment and Machines:** Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%). **Attendance:** Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required. **Other Essential Functions:** The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%).
