Job Description
The New York City Comptroller’s Office works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, in order to strengthen trust, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official, the comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together.
The Bureau of Public Affairs is the principal liaison between the New York City Comptroller’s office and the public, elected officials, and community-based organizations. The Bureau provides engagement, organizing, and event planning capacity to support the Comptroller’s strategic objectives and provide direct assistance to New Yorkers navigating City bureaucracy. Public Affairs is responsible for making the Comptroller’s Office more accessible to everyday New Yorkers, as well as collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to leverage the tools of the office in ways that improve the lives of New Yorkers across the five boroughs.
The Sr. Constituency Liaison serves as the NYC Comptroller's primary point of contact on all matters related to the immigrant communities across the five boroughs. The Constituency Liaison will report directly to the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Special Projects.
Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Represent the NYC Comptroller at community events and evening gatherings across the City, including rallies, vigils, community board and BID meetings, houses of worship services, and non-profit hosted events/convenings.
- Create comprehensive engagement strategy to ensure meaningful relationships and collaboration between community members/stakeholders (including elected officials) and the Office of the NYC Comptroller.
- Identify priority issues in immigrant communities and provide recommendations to guide intra-agency response and actions
- Advise on and design programming and initiatives that leverage the tools of the Comptroller’s Office in support of immigrant communities
- Work with the press/communications team to engage community and ethnic media outlets on an ongoing basis, including social media.
- Prepare briefings, newsletters, talking points and memos to advance the office's work in accordance with internal protocols.
- Perform other related duties and assignments as may be required.
Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
