Sr. Data Center / Cloud Engineer

Summary: 

The Sr. Data Center / Cloud Engineer is a highly skilled and experienced customer-focused technical professional who provides in-depth technical knowledge and specific design/information guidance within the Datacenter / Cloud Practice. This individual is an expert in design, implementation, and troubleshooting of datacenter networking, storage area networking, on-premises compute and storage arrays, and cloud solutions. This engineer will support enterprise accounts for Red River commercial and federal customers. The Sr. Data Center / Cloud Engineer shall also support, mentor, and enable other Professional Services engineers to carry out project tasks for overall success, in addition to performing high-level configuration tasks onsite or remote. 

 

The successful candidate will be detailed oriented with exceptional organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 

 

Position Overview: 

The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of the overall technology and experience deploying one or more of these solutions:  

Deep technical skills with on premises infrastructure, as well as cloud infrastructure that include networking, computing, and storage. 

Customer-facing skills, ideally gained in presales or consultancy roles, allowing them to represent Red River in detailed technical discussions with senior personnel. 

Demonstrated ability to think strategically about solutions and their alignment to business, product, and technical challenges. 

Understand, implement, and optimize Converged Infrastructure (CI) and/or Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) in a Private Cloud ecosystem while supporting Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) initiatives. 

Understand, implement, and optimize Private Cloud support for an SD-WAN and/or dedicated Public Cloud Connection fabric (e.g., AWS (Amazon Web Services) Direct Connects or Azure ExpressRoute) that are implemented by other Red River / subcontractor engineers. 

Understand, implement, and optimize network-routed or policy-routed fabrics to support cloud adoption, application mobility and disaster recovery as defined by Customer objectives. 

Leverages professional level engineering skills and in-depth knowledge in multiple specializations within the Datacenter / Cloud practice area such as Application Modernization, Converged Infrastructure (CI), Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) Storage Area Networking (SAN), Virtualization or Backup and Recovery. 

Maintain industry certifications as required to retain strategic OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) partnerships. 

Understands Red River offers and solution strengths, and opportunities. 

 

Minimum Requirements: 

 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience). 

10 years’ work experience 

7+ years related experience in a field or deployment-based role. 

Assist in developing, improving, and automating delivery methodologies 

Active and verified professional level OEM certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNP Datacenter; VMware VCIX-DCV; Azure/AWS Solution Architect; Nutanix NCP-MCI)  

Ability to communicate effectively across technical and nontechnical teams 

Prior experience working with the government is preferred 

 

 

Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge: 

 

Strong technical aptitude with the ability to learn new technical information quickly 

Excellent communication skills with the ability to create messages to share verbally or in written form to project and management stakeholders 

Proven experience as a Data Center or Cloud Deployment Engineer or similar role. 

Hands-on experience with server and storage hardware like Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS), Pure Storage Flash Array and Flash Blade or NetApp A-Serves and C-Series. This includes validated solution design like FlashStack//X and FlexPod. 

Hands-on experience with datacenter networking technologies like Dynamic Routing Protocols, Fabric Overlays through SDN, Cloud Onramp/Integrations, IP, and FibreChannel Storage from OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) like Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, and Arista.  

Expert knowledge of virtualization technologies like VMware Cloud Foundations, Nutanix or Red Hat OpenShift. Experience with hybrid cloud offerings like Azure Stack and AWS Outpost is a plus. 

Deployment experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions like Veeam Backup and Recovery, Azure Site Recovery, Druva, and Cohesity.  

 

Essential Elements (Mental; Physical; Equipment used):  

This position is an office position that requires remaining in a stationary position for multiple 

hours throughout the workday when not supporting customer deployments. Candidates should have basic proficiency with tools to be able to install network, server and storage equipment while also being able to lift upwards of 75 pounds. 

 

This position requires the ability to continuously communicate with co-workers throughout the 

day utilizing Red River approved and/or provided communication tools and equipment. 

 

Special Requirements:  
Travel to both regional and national customer sites as required to support Red River business initiatives. This position requires the ability to fly or drive domestically for up to 8 hours at a time and working Nights and Weekends (as needed) to support Red River business.  

 

Travel estimate for this position is 70% of the time, but additional travel may be required to meet customer requirements. Travel may include airfare and overnight stays, as necessary.
