The Senior Database Administrator designs, implements, and maintains complex databases, including back-up, performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring critical events, and documentation to ensure optimum system performance and efficiency. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Creates ad-hoc reports utilizing various data sources. 2. Develops data models and performs planning of architecture, functions, modules, recovery, standards, and implementation. 3. Provides primary support for the daily operations of database systems and serves as liaison to customs. 4. Plans, coordinates, and administers database systems including base definition, structure, documentation, requirements, and operational guidelines and protection. 5. Works on a variety of development and maintenance projects. 6. Works closely with developers and business users on system requirements, analysis, design, and implementation. 7. Provides guidance to technical staff on concepts and best practices. 8. Provides strategic advice on architecture and technology of database design, use, and administration. 9. Participates in the testing and implementation of new or enhanced database systems. 10. Establishes and maintains databases for user testing purposes and production. 11. Analyzes and determines information needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities. 12. Researches and evaluates alternatives and recommends solutions for business issues. 13. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field Experience: Minimum 6 years of relevant experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: • Knowledge of business and management principles. • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others. • Knowledge of database security methods and their applications. • Skills in Oracle database administration. • Skills in Microsoft SQL administration, and experience with Always-On clusters.• Knowledge of Data Distribution Strategies. Distribute data effectively across servers or clusters to balance workloads and enhance performance. • Knowledge of Data Factory, Cloud data integration solutions and Power Automate. Microsoft Fabric, Databricks and Azure Data Lakes.• Knowledge of using PowerShell and developing scripts.
