POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a Senior Design Checker at our modular manufacturing company, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and compliance of our modular designs. You will work closely with our design and engineering teams to review and analyze modular construction plans, ensuring they meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal specifications. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless execution of projects, driving efficiency, and excellence in our modular construction processes.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design Review: Conduct comprehensive reviews of modular construction plans, including architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical components, to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with building codes, standards, and project requirements Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous quality control measures to identify potential design flaws, inconsistencies, and errors early in the design process. Collaborate with design and engineering teams to address and resolve issues promptly.Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed of relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure all modular designs adhere to legal and safety requirements. Provide guidance and recommendations to ensure compliance throughout the design process.Technical Expertise: Utilize your expertise in modular construction principles, materials, and techniques to evaluate designs for structural integrity, functionality, and manufacturability. Offer insights and suggestions for optimizing designs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel, to facilitate effective communication and collaboration. Provide clear and constructive feedback to support continuous improvement in design processes and outcomes.Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of design reviews, modifications, and approvals. Generate reports summarizing findings, highlighting areas of concern, and recommending corrective actions as needed.Mentorship and Training: Serve as a mentor to junior design checkers, sharing knowledge, best practices, and insights to foster their professional development. Conduct training sessions to enhance the overall competency and proficiency of the design checking team.Examples of design review scope:Reviews all designer drawings including layouts and section views ensuring accurate BOM’s, callouts, and dimensionsReviews dimensions and ensures components are dimensioned adequately to minimize tolerance stack-upsPerforms non-technical drawing reviews for compliance to standards for borders, blocks, text, CAD standards, notes, call-outs, and view requirements to adequately depict the design intentVerifies weld symbols and beam selections are appropriate for their serviceVerifies voltages, wire sizes, and breaker sizes are appropriate for their serviceVerifies equipment access, service, and egress are appropriateAny other responsibility as assigned by TASJOB SKILLS:
Advanced knowledge as a designer/checker in package/plant designs and layouts with broad knowledge of technical applications, maintenance, operation, and clearance constraints of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systemsKnowledgeable of codes typically applicable to TAS equipment including NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, UMC, OSHA, and building codes etc.A self-starter and proficient designer/checker, with experience in mechanical, electrical, structural, and controls systemsEDUCATION & TRAINING:
High school diploma
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
12+ years of mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls design experience relevant to manufacture of TAS productsHands-on experience in design and drafting using 3D modeling software to include CAD, Solidworks, and Revit
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Proficient knowledge and experience of SolidWorks, Revit, Inventor, Catia, or Pro-E Experience in HVAC, piping design, or industrial plant design or related roles within the modular construction industry Associates Degree in a technical discipline or 3D/CAD design is a plus PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
