About the role:

We are looking for a Sr. Design System Engineer to drive the creation and evolution of a consistent, reusable, accessible, and scalable design system that empowers both design and engineering teams. In this role, you’ll spearhead efforts to deliver a unified product experience, accelerating and elevating the development of our digital products.

The ideal candidate will bring a balance of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a collaborative mindset to ensure that our design system meets the needs of multiple stakeholders. This is a great opportunity for anyone excited by the prospect of getting in on the ground floor and having considerable impact on development, as the development of our design system is in relatively early stages.

This role is hybrid to our New York hub, and requires an in-office presence 2-3 days per week (currently Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

Here are a few of the things you will do:

Elevate and advance our design system components, addressing gaps between the existing implementation and our long-term vision. Optimize and streamline the UI development process, minimizing time spent on repetitive tasks through the creation of highly scalable and reusable components. Define and refine processes for design system updates and feedback loops, incorporating insights from both design and engineering teams. Collaborate closely with the design team to foster a shared vision for the user experience and drive iterative improvements. Champion best practices in accessibility, performance optimization, and maintainability to ensure the design system exceeds industry standards. Collaborate proactively with the broader engineering organization to lead the seamless integration of new design system components.

Here is what we’re looking for in a candidate:

Collaboration: Demonstrates the ability to work with designers and engineers to create a seamless integration of the design system, fostering an inclusive environment. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify gaps in the design system and proactively implement optimizations.  Adaptability & Growth Mindset: Embraces feedback, learns from it, and iterates to keep the design system current with evolving business needs. Technical Expertise in Design Systems: Command of tools like Figma, Storybook, and React, combined with deep knowledge of scalable component architecture, maintainable design patterns, and clean, modular code practices. Additionally, a strong focus on accessibility, performance optimization, and delivering components that meet the highest standards for usability and efficiency.

Here is what is needed:

Design System Implementation: At least 2+ years’ experience designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable design systems, preferably in teams supporting 30+ frontend developers. Front End Experience: At least 5+ years’ experience developing in modern frameworks such as React or Angular, with a strong command of TypeScript, CSS-in-JS, and responsive design principles. Stack Expertise: Hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, and CSS, as well as design system tools like Figma and Storybook. Tooling & Documentation: A proven track record of creating tooling and documentation to make design systems accessible and maintainable, especially for non-technical users. Cross-timezone collaboration: Willingness to work with an Israel-based team and adapt to differences in culture and time zones.
